In Buddhism, wisdom is much deeper than just โbeing smartโ or having knowledge. Itโs called Paรฑรฑฤ (Pali) or Prajรฑฤ (Sanskrit), and it refers to the insight into the true nature of reality.
Understanding Reality as It Is โ Wisdom in Buddhism means seeing impermanence (anicca), suffering (dukkha), and non-self (anatta) clearly. You understand that everything changes, nothing lasts forever, and there is no fixed, independent self.
Right Judgment and Discernment โ Itโs the ability to see what actions lead to harm or benefit, not just intellectually, but intuitively.
Guiding Moral Conduct โ Wisdom supports ethical behavior (sฤซla) and mental discipline (samฤdhi). Without wisdom, actions may be misguided even if well-intentioned.
Liberation (Nibbฤna) โ Ultimately, wisdom is what frees the mind from attachment, craving, and ignorance. Itโs the key to enlightenment.
Practical Aspect โ In daily life, it means thinking before acting, understanding consequences, and cultivating compassionate action grounded in awareness.
So in short: Wisdom = deep insight + right understanding + seeing the true nature of things, which guides your actions toward freedom and peace.
