Wilpattu Safari Camp

Wilpattu Safari Camp is an all inclusive, campsite adjacent to the Wilpattu National Park.
Wilpattu Safari Camp is nestled in five acres of wooded forest, tucked between seasonal village rice fields and the Wilpattu National Park. Tents are sited among the shade of trees, providing shelter and cooling comfort. Not a single tree was cut in setting up the campsite. We are located less than 10 minutes from the park entrance.
Wilpattu Safari camp is fitted with solar powered lighting augmented by a windmill that can cater to all the power requirements of the camp. Our tents are equipped with charging points for electronic devices and batteries. For those who need to be connected Wilpattu Safari Camp has free Wi-Fi for our guests.
ACCOMMODATION
Wilpattu Safari Camp’s philosophy is to provide guests with an environment that is peaceful and quiet the camp has been limited to 04 guest tents that can accommodate 08 guests. The safari tents have been custom designed to our specifications and comprise of a verandah area, the main bedroom and an attached toilet. Each room has been furnished to provide our guests with maximum comfort which includes king sized beds, dual flush toilets with hot and cold running water. Each tent has a pedestal fan as well
GOING SAFARI IN WILPATTU
For safaris we have a Toyota Land cruiser jeep exclusively for the use of our guests. It has been specially equipped to meet the demands of the guest as well as the terrain. The jeep has been prepared with photographers in mind. At Wilpattu Safari Camp, we believe we have to be responsible residents and encourage similar minded visitors.

Safaris in Wilpattu National Park Sri Lanka

Located 30km west of Anurdhapura, and to the south of Wilpattu National Park is River Modergam Aru; to the north is River Kalay oya. February to October is the best time to visit Wilpattu. Wilpattu National Park has a good network of gravel roads, particularly between the water holes which are the best places to observe wild life. A unique complex of over 50 wetlands like “everglades” called "Villu" is the most prominent feature of the national park jungle. Jeep Safari is the regular norm in exploring the Wilpattu National Park. While the big 4 of Sri Lankan wild life the Leopard, Elephant, Sloth bear, Deer, endemic birds can be sighted easily during a half day safari, During the safari, the tourists aren’t supposed to get off the jeep at the tracks of the wild animals and expose themselves to the possible encounters in the wilderness. With the trackers at the Wilpattu National Park guiding the wildlife safaris, the visitors are always safe though in the thick of wilderness.

Half day Vs full day Game Drives
Many tourists tend to rush Wilpattu game drives by opting to do a half day tour against a full day safari which has its own down side as well, due to time constraints or insufficient knowledge on game drives. If you rush through Wilpattu game drive it’s vital to remember that you are dealing with wild creatures who doesn’t turn up to your busy schedule and its always a waiting game to get the best of a game drive, and that you’ll see only a fraction of what Wilpattu National park has on offer.
The option is available for a full day Safari where you can purchase one set of tickets, which on the other hand can be rather tiresome unless you are a wildlife enthusiast or professional photographer, as spending a whole day on a game drive jeep is not very comfortable, also its noteworthy mentioning here that wildlife tend to retreat to shade during mid day to avoid the heat.

How many days recommended to explore Wilpattu

1 night and 2 days trip – If you stay one night in a Hotel in Wilpattu area then you can do two half day game drives. One in the afternoon of the first day and another one in the morning of second day. Visitors of 1 night and 2 days trip usually check in to the hotel by lunch time and make the first trip in the afternoon of that day from 2 pm to 6 pm and stay overnight in the hotel and does the morning safari from 6 am to 11 am. But this is very rushed trip.

2 nights and 3 days trip – This is the most popular trip to Wilpattu National Park where you have the opportunity of making three game drives. One in the day one afternoon, 2nd day full day safari and third day morning safari and then checkout from the hotel.

3 nights and 4 days trip – This is the most recommended trip because Wilpattu National park is huge compared to other parks in Sri Lanka. One on the day one afternoon, full day safari on day two, full day safari on day three and the morning safari on day 4 and then checkout from the hotel.

4 or more nights – This is good for wildlife enthusiasts and for WildlifePhotographers. Higher the number of game drives higher the number of encounters specially Leopards and Bears
