Come over here, let yourself go.

In the warmth of the tropics, it’s only a matter of choice to leave the familiar behind and, within a few hours’ time, go completely off-grid, deep into the jungle. Slip into cool, clear waters. Listen to birdsong drifting through the trees and leaves rustling softly in the breeze, in almost perfect equilibrium. Here, the greenery is rich, the forests are wild and protected by cloud-covered mountains in the distance…

We are a blessed people, not necessarily for our wealth in gold, but for the wealth of a natural world. All of it exists within this tiny island in the heart of the Indian Ocean: forests, mountains, rivers, oceans, wildlife and an extraordinary diversity of life.

Lovers suspended in time.

P.S. An evening stroll along the ramparts of Galle Fort, the romantic old-world town, seems to be a favourite ritual among the locals. As the sun begins to cool and the heat of the day begins to fade, a quiet walk through the twilight seems to wash away the day’s sorrows. With the warm blue hues of evening, the sound of the sea and a gentle breeze drifting in from the ramparts, there comes an almost overwhelming sense of peace, as though, for a little while, time itself has decided to take a breather.

Ode to an evening spent at Dambulla’s 2,000-year-old Cave Temple…

On an evening when the sun wanes, the air here gets temperate, and the sky is painted in molten gold.

The stone-paved floor, in rhythmic symmetry, begins to cool, and the devout Buddhists clad in white slowly pour in. The soft footfalls echoing against the ancient stone pathway whisper of lives spent in the countryside’s muteness, a humble yet deeply rooted existence in the traditions and culture that sustain their island. The scent of the incense thickens the air, and the warmth of a thousand oil lamps illuminates the carved walls, casting a glow that’s as old as the first light of the universe, where the veil between past and present seems to disappear.

Journeys end, but the memories never do…
Here’s what Liz King had to say about her trip to Sri Lanka.

“Last but not least, it’s my turn to say bye.

On my way home, via Hong Kong, then another week or so in Jakarta, and already thinking about how to come back here.

Shanitha, Dulith, Nuwan, and the entire Authenticities team: what you built here is exceptional. The access, the people you placed us with (all the Nuwans 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, etc.), the way every day had something that totally blew me away. I came in knowing only a little about Sri Lanka and left head over heels in love with it. Also, your office is baller.

Dulith: Thank you for being our keeper, our anchor, our co-conspirator, and of course, our MVP. You are still my favorite even though you cannot let me consume a coffee in peace.

To the FAM fam: you made the trip what it was. The early mornings, the giggles I wasn’t expecting, panicking our way through seaplanes and leeches. Grateful to have done this one with all of you. There has never been a trip like this one and I doubt there ever will be.

“Guys!!! 🥹 sitting at the hawker market in Singapore and missing all of your jokes, smiles and beautiful energies. This was truly the best fam I’ve ever been on. Shanitha and Bruno, thank you both so much for including me on this magical journey. Duli, we were spoiled by you all week. You really brought this beautiful country to light for us. The smiles of every artisan, guide, naturalist, hotelier, local were infectious and I’m already missing that beautiful energy. It goes without saying that Sri Lanka will be top of list when suggesting destinations to our clients, as everyone should be so lucky as to experience this.”
