AES LANKA ,Extends Best Wishes to SriLankan Airlines on the Arrival of Airbus A330-200 (4R-ALT)

AES Lanka proudly congratulates SriLankan Airlines on the arrival of its latest fleet addition – the Airbus A330-200, registered as 4R-ALT.

Taking to the skies over Colombo on June 4, 2025, this special inaugural flight marks a significant milestone for the national carrier. The aircraft will perform a low-altitude flyover across Colombo city from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM, followed by a low pass over Katunayake, before its grand arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) at 9:30 AM.

This is not just the landing of a new aircraft, but a symbol of Sri Lanka’s forward journey in aviation. AES Lanka is honored to witness and celebrate this historic event.

1. Purpose of Contingency Fuel: 🛩️
- Ensures the aircraft has enough fuel to handle unforeseen events, such as weather changes, air traffic control delays, or deviations from planned routes.

2. Risks : 🛩️
- Overestimating Contingency Fuel : Leads to excessive fuel weight, reducing efficiency and increasing fuel burn unnecessarily.

- Underestimating Contingency Fuel : Increases the risk of fuel shortages, which could result in emergency landings or operational disruptions.

3. Methods of Calculating Contingency Fuel : 🛩️
- Percentage Method : Often calculated as a percentage of trip fuel, typically 5%, but not always.

- Fixed Amount Method : Adds a predetermined amount of extra fuel.

- Statistical Method : Uses historical flight data to estimate the required contingency fuel.

- Enroute Alternate Method : Accounts for the fuel needed to reach an alternate airport en route.

These strategies help balance safety and efficiency in aviation.
