🇱🇰Kataragama (Katharagama) is a sacred pilgrimage town located in the Moneragala District of Sri Lanka's Uva Province. Surrounded by lush dry-zone wilderness and the scenic Menik Ganga (River of Gems), it stands as one of the country's most revered multi-religious sanctuary grounds.

Multi-Faith Unity: Sacred to Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, and the indigenous Vedda people alike.

​Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya: The main shrine complex dedicated to God Kataragama (Lord Murugan/Skanda), renowned for its vibrant daily rituals, poojas, and fruit offerings.

​Kiri Vehera: An ancient Buddhist stupa built in the 6th century BCE, located just a short walk along a shaded pathway from the main temple.

​Esala Perahera: The annual summer festival featuring intricate torchlight processions, traditional drumming, fire-walking rituals, and elephant parades.

​Gateway to Wildlife: Located right next to Yala National Park and Lunugamvehera National Park, making it a ideal base for wildlife safaris.

​Tip for Visitors: It is customary to cleanse hands and feet in the gentle waters of the Menik Ganga before entering the shrine complex.
