Russian Transport System Cargo in 2020: Sea Freight Up 10%

During 2020, cargo volume carried by all transport modes in the RF transport system was down 6% year-on-year to 7.8 bn tons.

According to the RF Statistics Agency, the largest volume was carried by road, down 6.2% year-on-year to 5.4 bn tons.

Rail cargo declined by 2.7% year-on-year down to 1.2 bn tons.

Pipeline traffic was down 8.4% year-on-year to 1.06 bn tons.

Sea freight increased by 9.8% year-on-year up to 24.6 mn tons.

Inland shipping volume decreased by 7.8% year-on-year down to 99.3 mn tons.

Air transport carried 1.16 mn tons, up 2.2% year-on-year.

In December rail cargo and pipeline traffic increased month-on-month. Cargo transportation by other modes of transport declined. Inland shipping volume decreased the most significantly.

Global Ports’ Container Throughput Growth Above Market

Global Ports Investments has announced its operational results for Q4 and the full year 2020. The Group outperformed the overall market with consolidated marine container throughput up by 5.1% year-on-year to 389 thousand TEU in Q4 2020 compared to a growth of 4.2% of the entire Russian market.

Sri Lanka Ports Authority implements clearance of all imported goods through electronic methods

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) has taken steps towards the clearance of all imports at the Port of Colombo through electronic payments via the Internet. This allows port users to make payments from their homes or offices to clear goods from the Port of Colombo.
This special facility will enable port users to make their port payments easily without hassle. In the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, all terminals of the Port of Colombo have been made readily available with necessary arrangements towards required services for all stakeholders.
At present, the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) and all other terminals of the Port of Colombo have also maintained all port operations with the implementation of a strategic crisis management plan.
Accordingly, complying with the Government Health Regulations, steps have been secured to protect port employees and port users from the pandemic by, facilitating the payment of imported goods through the Internet, efficiently and expeditiously.
With such extensions, facilities have been offered by Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) with the e-payment methods for the clearance of FCL and LCL cargo through respective clearance agencies via the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) web www.slpa.lk

Russian Sea Ports Capacity to Expand 50 Mn Tons in 2021

The handling capacity of Russia’s sea ports is to be expanded by 50 mn tons due to new port facilities put into operation and existing facilities reconstruction, according to Rosmorport.

In the Baltic port of Ust-Luga, Ultramar’s mineral fertilizers terminal project to be completed by the year-end will add 12 mn tons of capacity. The LNG terminal planned for putting into operation in 2021 in Vyssotsk in the Baltic, will have a capacity of 2.2 mn tons.

In the Black Sea, the modernization of the KSK grain terminal in Novorossiysk will add 1.5 mn tons, while the completion of the dry bulk cargo terminal project in Taman will add 25 mn tons.

In the Sea of Azov, the first phase of the liquid bulk terminal developed by Temryukmortrans in the port of Temryuk with a capacity of 0.5 mn tons is to be inaugurated this year.

In the Far East, the new coal port of Sukhodol capable of handling 6 mn tons is to be put into operation. Other coal projects in the Far East include stage 2A of the common facility near Cape Otkryty with a capacity of 1.55 mn tons and reconstruction in the port of Vostochny to increase the capacity at Maly Port by 0.5 mn tons.

In the Arctic, two berths are to be modernized in Pevek to expand the port capacity by 0.8 mn tons.

All of these projects are part of the Comprehensive Plan for transport infrastructure modernization and expansion in the framework of the Sea Ports of Russia federal programme. Last year, 32.67 mn tons of capacity was put into operation under the Comprehensive Plan, according to Rosmorport.

Container Rail Service between Moscow and Kaliningrad region

the first block train from Bely Rast Terminal near Moscow arrived to the Cternyakhovsk logistics center in Kaliningrad region.

The cargo in containers (42 TEU) is electric equipment and construction materials for Kaliningrad-based companies. The transit time made just one day.

The same day, the train set off on the return journey loaded with products made in the region including electronics, confectionary, and polymer materials.

The project is developed in cooperation between Russian Railways’ two logistics hubs in Moscow and Kaliningrad and Novik Group and Eurosib SPb Transport Systems.

In future, the service is to become regular with two train departures weekly.
