Countries with Tourist Visa (ETA) Free-of-Charge for 30 Days

1. With effect from 25th May 2026, nationals of the following 40 countries are eligible to obtain tourist visa (ETA) free-of-charge for a period of 30 days.

AUSTRALIA, AUSTRIA, BAHARAIN, BELARUS, BELGIUM, CANADA, CHINA, CZECH REPUBLIC, DENMARK, FINLAND, FRANCE, GERMANY, INDIA, INDONESIA, IRAN, ISRAEL, ITALY, JAPAN, KAZAKHSTAN, KUWAIT, MALAYSIA, NEPAL, NETHERLAND, NEW ZEALAND, NORWAY, OMAN, PAKISTAN, POLAND, QATAR, RUSSIA, SAUDI ARABIA, SOUTH KOREA, SPAIN, SWEDEN, SWITZERLAND, THAILAND, TURKEY, UAE, UNITED KINGDOM, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

2. Nationals of the above-mentioned countries holding Diplomatic, Official, Service, or Ordinary passports are eligible to obtain tourist visa (ETA) free-of-charge under this scheme.

3. Please note that all foreign nationals, including nationals of the above-mentioned 40 countries and nationals with bilateral reciprocal agreements with Sri Lanka (Maldives, Seychelles, and Singapore), are required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) prior to arrival in Sri Lanka. As per the bilateral reciprocal agreement between Sri Lanka and Maldives, Maldivian nationals will receive 90 days tourist visa through ETA system.

4. The Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for nationals of the above-mentioned 40 countries and for nationals of Maldives, Seychelles and Singapore will be processed free of charge. However, ETA fees paid prior to 25.05.2026 are non-refundable.

5. Under this scheme, tourists are entitled to a tourist visa free of charge valid for 30 days (Maldivian nationals will receive 90 days), with double-entry facility permitted from the date of first arrival in Sri Lanka within the 30-day validity period.

6. Applicants who have obtained a free visa and wish to remain in Sri Lanka beyond 30 days may apply for a visa extension upon payment of the applicable visa fee.

7. Please note that except the national mentioned in above 4, nationals of all other countries shall continue to be subject to the general rules and regulations governing the Sri Lanka
ETA system.

Tourists from 40 countries can now obtain free Sri Lanka ETA from today (May 25)

Sri Lanka has officially introduced free tourist Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) facilities for nationals of 40 countries with effect from today, 25 May 2026, according to a circular issued by the Department of Immigration and Emigration.

The circular, signed by Controller General I. Chaminda Pathiraja, states that the move follows Cabinet approval granted on 30 March 2026 and subsequent parliamentary approval for amendments to immigration regulations.

Under the new scheme, eligible foreign nationals can obtain a free ETA valid for 30 days with double-entry permission.

The 40 eligible countries are Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belarus, Belgium, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Poland, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

Nationals of Maldives, Seychelles and Singapore will continue to receive ETA processing free of charge.

Authorities noted that all foreign nationals, except certain diplomatic and official passport holders covered under bilateral arrangements, must still obtain ETA approval prior to arrival in Sri Lanka.

Visitors wishing to remain in Sri Lanka beyond the initial 30-day period may apply for a visa extension upon payment of the applicable fee.

The Department of Immigration stated that the amended regulations will be published in the Government Gazette from today.
