Sri Lanka is a world-renowned source for natural rubber. The local rubber industry, through its thousands of acres of plantations across the island, is a key product exported either in raw form or as a finished product.
Goods such as high-quality latex products, pneumatic & solid rubber tyres, household rubber-based goods and other automotive rubber parts are manufactured and exported worldwide from the island.
The industry remains a large employer, with small rubber holdings being a key player in the raw material supply chain. On the merchandise level, the industry has seen healthy investment by large firms, both foreign and local, to capitalise on the abundant availability of raw material and skilled labour.
The global growth in demand for rubber (both in raw & finished forms) has positioned Sri Lanka in an advantageous position, given the strength and capacity of its plantations.
Economies such as the USA, Germany, Belgium, Italy, France, and Canada remain consistently as the destination markets for Sri Lankan rubber products, with rubber tyres and tubes being a key product of these exports.
Despite the size of the island, Sri Lanka has overcome challenges to become one of the largest product centres for industrial solid tyres and consistently one of the top 10 largest exporters of latex gloves in the world.
A bicycle, a hospital or even a vehicle tyre near you could have been produced or sourced in Sri Lanka and packed to be loaded into shipping containers to be exported to a seller near you through the nationβs gateway for exports!
