I-3 to I-4 services migration
Information and updates on the Inmarsat I-3 to I-4 services migration.
Keep watching this space as news and updates are posted as soon as they become available.
Migration update: IOR confirmed

The final migration of Classic Aero, Fleet 77, Swift 64 and Inmarsat C services (to include Aero C and Mini C) from the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) I-3 to the Europe/Middle East/Africa (EMEA) I-4 is scheduled to take place on 12 December 2018 at 12:00 UTC (subject to change for operational reasons).

Our primary objective is to ensure that the transition process is as seamless as possible with the minimum disruption caused to our customers and partners.

The transition of services from the I-3 fleet onto our I-4 constellation* started earlier this year. Our approach has been to migrate all services (Classic Aero, Fleet 77, Swift 64 and Inmarsat C), satellite by satellite, as per the schedule shown in the table below.

I-3 to I-4 migration Schedule
Atlantic Ocean Region West (AORW) I-3 to Americas (AMER) I-4 Classic Aero, Fleet 77 and Swift 64 services – migration successfully completed on 03 May 2018
Inmarsat C services (to include Aero C and Mini C) – migration successfully completed on 09 May 2018

Pacific Ocean Region (POR) I-3 to Asia/Pacific (APAC) I-4 Classic Aero, Fleet 77, Swift 64 and Inmarsat C services (to include Aero C and Mini C) – migration successfully completed on 29 August 2018
Atlantic Ocean Region East (AORE)* I-3 F2 moved to I-3 F5 Classic Aero, Fleet 77, Swift 64 and Inmarsat C services (to include Aero C and Mini C) – migration successfully completed on 30 October 2018
Indian Ocean Region (IOR) I-3 to Europe/Middle East/Africa (EMEA) I-4 Classic Aero, Fleet 77, Swift 64 and Inmarsat C services (to include Aero C and Mini C) – scheduled to take place on 12 December 2018 at 12:00 UTC
* Note: AORE is part of the overall I-3 to I-4 migration programme but it did not move to the I-4 constellation, it remained in the I-3 constellation.

Due to the move from the I-3 to the I-4 satellites*, the coverage areas will change and users will need to ensure that their devices are pointed to the relevant satellite. This process will generally be managed automatically by the terminal without the need for user intervention. However, in some instances, users will need to manually repoint their devices to the appropriate satellite.

Inmarsat C users should ensure that their local applications (e.g. data reporting) will operate correctly if they are using a different Inmarsat satellite and are advised to contact their applications provider for any support.
Classic Aero and Swift 64 users are advised to contact their equipment manufacturers to confirm whether a configuration update will be required to support the migration.
Each migration step will cause a short outage while services are moved onto the corresponding satellite. Under supervision of the International Mobile Satellite Organisation (IMSO), the Global Maritime Distress Safety System (GMDSS) and Maritime Safety Services will be closely monitored during the migration, as will the Classic Aero Safety Service. These safety services will be restored first with the highest priority.

We will continue to communicate with you throughout the planning and execution phase of the remainder IOR migration, providing additional details as and when necessary.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your Inmarsat representative, who will be able to assist
