Floating Village on Tonlé Sap Lake, Cambodia
The floating villages on Tonlé Sap Lake in Cambodia are among the most fascinating and unique communities in Southeast Asia. Tonlé Sap is the largest freshwater lake in the region and plays a vital role in the lives of millions of Cambodians. During the rainy season 🌧️, the lake expands dramatically, and entire villages—built on wooden platforms, floating barrels, or stilts—rise and fall with the changing water levels.
One of the most well-known floating villages is Kompong Phluk, along with Chong Khneas and Kompong Khleang. The people here depend on fishing and tourism for their livelihood. Schools, markets, and even temples float on the water, creating a fully functioning society that adapts to the rhythms of the lake.🎣🌿🛶
