Bay Ka-ek or Thma Bay Ka-ek is a minor yet historically significant Hindu temple ruin located in the Angkor Archaeological Park of Siem Reap, Cambodia, positioned just south of the famous South Gate of Angkor Thom. Here are four key points you should be aware of this minor ruin;
1- Date & Style: Constructed in the early 10th century AD, the temple was built in the distinct Bakheng architectural style. It was part of a cluster of sacred sites surrounding Phnom Bakheng, which served as the heart of the empire's capital city at the time.
2- Built By: The temple was commissioned by King Yasovarman I (who reigned from 889 to 910 AD), one of the great builders of the Khmer Empire who shifted the capital to the Angkor region.
3-Religion & Dedication: Rooted firmly in Hinduism, the sanctuary was specifically dedicated to Shiva.
4-What Remains Today: Today, the site is mostly in ruins, consisting primarily of a square brick tower platform, a laterite terrace, and an intact sandstone door frame. Despite its small footprint today, archaeological excavations at the site uncovered a highly significant sacred treasure: five gold leaves arranged in a ritual pattern (quincunx), with the central leaf beautifully embossed with the image of Nandi, the sacred bull and mount of Lord Shiva.

These priceless treasures have been safeguarded and exhibited in the Preah Norodom Sihanouk Angkor Museum of Siem Reap, the Kingdom of Cambodia.
