Air Cambodia Signs Purchase Deal for 20 C909 Aircraft with COMAC
Prime Minister Hun Manet Meets Delegation, Fully Endorses and Supports the Project
On the afternoon of July 17, Air Cambodia officially signed an agreement in Shanghai to purchase 20 C909 aircraft with the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC). Synchronously, the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) of Cambodia inked a Memorandum of Understanding with COMAC to facilitate smooth C909 operations and deepen bilateral cooperation in civil aviation infrastructure, operational support, talent development, maintenance training, and other sectors. This signing makes Air Cambodia the first foreign flag carrier to place a bulk order for China’s C909 aircraft.
Before the ceremony, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, met with Shen Bo, Vice Chairman and President of COMAC, and David Zhan, Vice Chairman and CEO of Air Cambodia. Prime Minister extended warm congratulations on the partnership, spoke highly of its outcomes, and pledged full ongoing support for the project delivery.
Attendees included Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, Minister in charge of SSCA Mao Havannall, Minister of Commerce Cham Nimul, and He Dongfeng, Chairman of COMAC. Also present were representatives from Chinese and Cambodian aviation enterprises, airport groups, and financial institutions: Yu Shihai, Chief Accountant of COMAC; Tang Jin, Chairman of Chengdu Airlines; Bai Dongzhan, President of Henan Airport Investment Group; Li Guohong, President of Hainan Development Holdings; Yin Xiaohua, President of Chongqing Airport Group; Qu Changzhen, Deputy President of Zhongyu Aviation Group; Ren Huaijun, President of Fuzhou Airport; Yang Lindou, President of Air Silk Road (Henan) International Limited; and Lam Van Hai, CEO of BIDC Bank Cambodia etc.
The signing marks a landmark achievement in China-Cambodia civil aviation collaboration and a major milestone in Air Cambodia’s development, ushering in a new phase of fleet expansion for the national flag carrier. Following the phased delivery and entry into service of the C909 fleet, Air Cambodia will optimize its route network, upgrade operational performance and strengthen its overall competitiveness, contributing significantly to Cambodia’s modern aviation transport system.
Deliveries of the first batch of C909 aircraft to Air Cambodia are scheduled to start in batches starting from the second half of 2026.
