Dear Kenyans,
For those of us getting depressed and terrified at the recent spate of terrorist attacks, i just wanted to point out some different perspective.
Not to make light of the tragedies involved, I was taken aback to note that the Killer brew has killed almost as many as the Westgate attack.
So if you combine Killer brews and road accidents, the terrorists cannot even come close, even with their most sophisticated attacks!
So we ought to stop worrying about the Terrorists as such, and worry instead more on our society's weaknesses - what is broken is our beliefs and values system - our cultural software, our moral compass.
Corruption is our Achilles heel and will be so unless we re-think and re-set our values, or at least reduce avaricious acquisitiveness, our desire for conspicuous consumption, our headlong thoughtless embrace of unfettered raw capitalism and our reckless abandon of all our ancestral values, our UTU-ness...We be v lost - good people.
Anyway apologies for this rant - it just got to me and i had to vent. We are most of us going about huddled in fear of Terrorist attacks, when in actual fact we should be more terrified of ourselves! And what we have let our society become! That saintly looking Mama running a Shebeen is much more lethal, several thousand times more lethal - than a terrorist placing a random satchel of explosives in a random bus. That Mama changaa will ruin more lives and kill more many times over. Long after the terrorists are forgotten
I mean think of it, all it takes is a tanker load of industrial methanol and other chemicals to be transported to a series of changaa dens all over the counties and you would have the biggest disaster ever - and it wouldn't cost the terrorists a thing. they would only need one operative - and v little money and logistics. No explosives. No guns. No training. No nothing. They would just rely on our v own greed.
Don't fear the terrorists - Fear the person in the mirror
God bless us all.
