Some mining company called sirikwa quarry with physical address at baharini, kiplombe location of kiplombe ward,Turbo constutuency ,Eldoret city of kenya,whose operations include manufacturing and supply of ballast,sand,concrete blocks and other construction materials;
Established sometimes in 1985 and 1987,the company has been of some relevance to the community by providing employment thus holding up for providence for the workers and their dependants.
Sirikwa quarry whose director ship is discreet but management well versed to the community around made of Kenyan Asian and supervisor ship made of local community is however synonymous, with loud blasts and whitish dust in the air well as discharge of chemicalized water into the stream that feeds the larger sosiani river that in turn feeds some river that feeds nzoia river that drains to lake Victoria-the source of Nile river that is key for irrigation in Egypt and Israel and relevant worldwide.
Simple empirical appraisal of the sirikwa quarry as a company will reveal to any normal individual that the company has had detrimental impact than is expected of any positivity to the society and community around.
The loud blasts that has been a pollution to the sound and hearing(noise pollution)to some extent causing or worsening health aspects to individuals some at times having passed out due to unexpected loud blasts.
Discharge of waste materials including chemically infested water to the natural stream and other water bodies.
Excavation so deep that interferes with the water table thus causing the community around to lack water, much as they dig wells to 30ft.
The deep excavation has as well affected the natural water catchments and the springs that used to feed baharini lake that has ever since been the source of water for domestic and animals use within the community.
Baharini is now a seasoned lake and the chemicals emitted from quarry has been a threat to the aquatic family at the lake and the sorounding water bodies..thence it's not unusual to find dead fish and Scorpions floating along the shores..as well as dried or infested reeds.
The tremors are destabilising houses and building around,some private and public properties have been weakened by frequent unexpected blasts.
It is alluded and believed as is reliably informed that the management of sirikwa quarry underpays it's workers and an appraisal of it's work force from 1987 would make anyone realise that no person working or who has worked and retired at sirikwa quarry has had a meaningful investment.
More than ten have died miserably of poverty,some retired and some dying on duty.
It is appreciated that sirikwa quarry provided a token of food,twice to the community during the difficult times of covid 19.
The community has as equally so seen so small of the CSR part of the company.
Sirikwa quarry has become a cash cow,a white elephant to some crooked unscrupulous persons in the community,who act as moles and then go to the management and ask for a cut ,to mislead and disinform the community.
The corrupt government officials and the fake representation of the people.. ''the moles''.
The unscrupulous persons are known.. and have no Goodwill of the community and larger society apart from their self serving interests.
Some administration personages and NEMA officers have made the issue and the company to be their solace to brokenness.
The environment is dwindling... Sirikwa quarry activities has a big negating effect to the environment...now and the time to come.
It's everyone's innate duty to protect and preserve the environment for the future good.
