Hello from the Shinhotaka Ropeway aerial tramway! 🚡✨

The Shinhotaka Ropeway is still very much a winter wonderland, but temperatures are gradually climbing and spring is just around the corner!

Today we'd like to share some cherry-blossom news from the Takayama area. 🌸
Sakura are one of Japan's most iconic and breathtaking sights – so why not pair a dramatic alpine panorama from the Shinhotaka Ropeway with some beautiful blossom-viewing down below?

① Nakabashi Bridge
Vivid cherry blossoms burst into bloom around Nakabashi, one of Takayama's most beloved landmarks. The contrast between the vermilion bridge and the soft pink of the sakura makes for a truly stunning scene. And after dark, the area is beautifully illuminated – a quieter, more intimate atmosphere than the daytime crowds, with the blossoms glowing in the night.

Expected bloom: Early April
Address: Shimmeimachi, Takayama
Light-up period: Wednesday, April 1 to Sunday, May 24 (except Friday, April 14)
Light-up hours: 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM

② Enagogawa Promenade
The banks of the Enago River are lined with white-walled storehouses, temples, and shrines -- a streetscape that evokes the Edo period. The combination of this atmospheric historic townscape with cherry blossoms in full bloom is quietly enchanting. And watching the petals drift down onto the surface of the river is one of those fleeting, quintessentially Japanese spring moments.

Expected bloom: Mid-April
Address: Oshimmachi, Takayama

③ Tochio Onsen
Cherry blossoms come a little later to Okuhida Onsengo than to central Takayama. Here you can enjoy a lovely combination of moss phlox beneath the bridge and a boulevard of cherry trees overhead. In the evening, the tree-lined avenue is lit with traditional paper lanterns, creating an almost dreamlike scene.

Expected bloom: Late April to Late May
Address: Tochio, Okuhida Onsengo, Takayama (throughout the Horadani area of Tochio Onsen)
Light-up hours: 7:00 PM to 10:30 PM

There are many wonderful cherry blossom spots around Shinhotaka and Takayama.
We hope you'll make a day of it and enjoy them all, together with a ride on the tramway! ✨

Hi there! This is the Shinhotaka Ropeway aerial tramway! ✨

Spring is just around the corner, and most of the snow has melted in downtown Takayama, but up here at the Shinhotaka Ropeway, you can still enjoy stunning winter scenery! ❄

Snow typically lingers here through late April to early May, meaning you can soak in breathtaking snowy landscapes long after the city below has thawed. That’s one of the things that makes the Shinhotaka Ropeway so special! ✨

Come visit us and make the most of winter while it lasts!
