I know many of you would love to meet a maiko during your trip to Kyoto, so I wanted to share this experience with you.
I was recently contacted by a new partner Japan Geisha & Maiko Experience Kyoto about this experience. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to experience it myself this time, because as you know I don’t currently live in Japan, but I thought it could be such an amazing experience to share with you guys.
It takes place inside Kounji Temple, a 13th-century Zen temple near Nanzenji that is normally closed to the public.
The experience lasts 90 minutes and includes two traditional dances, a Japanese parlor game, a Q&A and time to take photos with the maiko. Groups are limited to 10 people and an English-speaking guide is there to explain everything.
I haven’t tried it myself yet, so this isn’t a personal review. I just thought it could be a really nice experience for anyone interested in Kyoto’s traditional culture.
