This 5700 series will be abolished in one week. Many people love it because of the comfortable ride and unusual designs. For example, a few passengers can get a view through the front windshield of the first car like riding in the front seat of an automobile.

30 years ago these cars were made as based on the famous Meitetsu Panorama car. In fact, some parts were borrowed such as the motor and electric generator that were used in the original Panorama car. In other words, it would have been a waste to abolish the Panaroma Car and dispose of the various parts. So the engineers tried to reuse as many parts as possible.

I want to ride it again but I'm too busy studying for tests this week. Furthermore, this car runs only in the morning when I'm riding another line on the way to school.

According to my friends, in the past this car was used as a film location for t.v. shows.

27 December update:
This series is now gone. A few days ago I tried to take pictures and ride it because school was finished. But I could take pictures only and not ride it. This car was running regularly about 2 weeks ago.

Let me sidetrack a little. When many train cars of the same model are running, train fans have many chances to encounter them. Now with this old train model, as the numbers decreased, so did the number of operations per day also decrease. It reached a point where so few cars were in operation each day that train fans had a difficult time trying to encounter it.

18 January 2020 update:
Many Japanese train companies make plans for a model to run on a non-standard line. For example, the 5700 series were allocated to the limited express line departing Nagoya Station at 11:41 a.m. But, one month ago, the number of 5700 series cars decreased unexpectedly (company strategy unknown) so that the original plan to run the 5700 series on the limited express line from Nagoya was canceled. So the train company was left with spare cars. To prevent waste, the train company managed to find a purpose for them which is the following.

When a particular train had an accident or inspection taking several months, these spare cars of the 5700 series would run as a substitute. This happened on December 17th, the big chance that train fans were waiting for.

24 January 2020 update:
But it was not always that the 5700 series runs all day and where is not far from my home. Then the 5700 series passed by Nagoya Station only once. And this car was going towards Gifu Hashima Station. If I went there, I was late for the cram school class. I took only a picture of the 5700 series and and go to cram school, then. I was frustrated that I took a picture in this situation only but I was still lucky.

All of the cars are someday replaced by new ones. It's necessary and train fans should accept it. Let's look forward to debuting the new 9500 series.

This video isn't so good because it's too short and the new departure board is difficult to see. I should've used zoom (Actually my English teacher Chuck told me this). Also it's shaky. That's my fault. Every time the train gets near I lower my camera to get a direct view.

Now about why the departure boards are being recorded. Yes, there are two. Of course one of them is highly visible. But the other one in the background can barely be seen. (Written by Chuck).

I expect the old departure board (in the front) on this side to be removed in the next few days.

The Meijo Line's announcement and information LED board have been changed to the new type. The new announcement includes English as well as Japanese. And the information LED board provides the passengers with important information in Japanese, English, Korean and Chinese. Bilingual information is very convenient for foreign people. But I was disappointed that the new announcement had been prepared by AI (artificial intelligence). Some people have a hobby to enjoy listening to the different
human announcements all over Japan. I also prefer listening to a human being rather than the same artificial voice. Sadly many industries are switching from humans to non-human technology such as AI and robots.

Furthermore, a short musical tune plays before the train arrives at the station. The audio of the new version has been slightly improved by sounding sharper and clearer.

This line is running from Yokohama to Ebina. The cars have a lot of unusual functions such as automatic windows. In the 1970s, a large number of cars didn't have air conditioners. So the passengers would open the windows in the hot summer. However, the automatic windows aren't used during the hot summer anymore because all of the cars now have air conditioners. During other seasons when it's not so hot, a couple of passengers may feel hot because they are sensitive to heat (暑がり). If the passengers sensitive to heat open a window, the other passengers not sensitive to heat (most of them are like this) may be annoyed. Therefore, the window should be opened when no one is around. By the way, the windows can be opened by the train conductors, but do you know the way to open the windows by the passengers?

There are two buttons between the door and window. The passenger has complete control. However, it's rare to close the windows by a train conductor from the train conductor's cabin because another passenger's hand, head, etc. may be caught in the window. It's not possible for the train conductor to monitor passenger safety of the entire train. This situation is fixed by giving control to a passenger for a single window, only. This type of train car is decreasing because of new technology. Let's ride this train before it's retired.

Introduction
First, let me explain the Japanese after-school "Club". Japanese school students usually remain at school after classes to participate in the club of interest. In my school's situation, classes finish at 3 o'clock. (To be cont.'d)

This book is published every year by the Nagoya Transportation Research Club at my school. The picture was taken by club members.
