[TARO_in the news]
OMO7 Yokohama by Hoshino Resorts opened on April 21, 2026, bringing a new kind of city stay to the historic heart of Kannai. Set within the redevelopment of the former Yokohama City Hall site, the hotel reimagines a 1959 landmark designed by renowned architect Togo Murano, blending preserved heritage with a distinctly contemporary sensibility.

The 276-room property caters to a wide spectrum of travelers, from spacious suites for up to six guests to a full dog-friendly floor, complete with in-room accommodations, terrace access, and indoor and outdoor dog runs. Notably rare for an urban hotel in Japan, even large dogs are welcome - positioning the hotel as a standout for pet-inclusive travel.

Inside, design details subtly echo the original building’s palette, while curated exhibitions and architectural references invite guests to engage with Yokohama’s layered history. Dining spans from OMO Dining, where Chinese and Western influences reflect the city’s cosmopolitan roots, to the brand’s first OMO Bakery, offering an eclectic selection of breads, including signature curry buns alongside a more relaxed evening café culture.

True to the OMO brand, the experience extends well beyond the hotel itself. Guided neighborhood walks, insider maps, and curated nightlife crawls through Noge invite guests to explore Yokohama like a local, while rooftop events at HAMAKAZE Terrace pair jazz and craft beer with sweeping city views.

Balancing cultural storytelling with playful urban energy, OMO7 Yokohama positions itself as both a gateway and a guide inviting travelers to discover a deeper, more textured side of the city.

[TARO_Mohri’s Gourmet Report]
In Ebisu, where Tokyo’s dining scene is as competitive as it is captivating, a new address is quietly redefining Italian dining. vivido (La Mia Cucina Piemontese), the fourth venture by SLICK founder Keito Iwasaki, brings a distinctly personal vision shaped by his roots in street culture - skateboarding, music, and fashion - into dialogue with the refined culinary traditions of Piedmont in northern Italy. The result is not your expected trattoria, but something far more compelling: a space that feels like a design-forward wine bar, layered with contemporary art and an effortless urban edge that mirrors the neighborhood’s rhythm.

At the heart of the experience is chef Tomokazu Miwa, whose time at the Michelin-starred La Ciau del Tornavento in Piedmont left a lasting imprint. His cooking expresses both reverence and reinvention - traditional regional dishes reimagined through the lens of Japan’s seasonal ingredients. The menu unfolds as a subtle collaboration between Italy and Japan, grounded in authenticity yet elevated by nuance. Thoughtfully curated Italian wines, spanning classic to natural, pair seamlessly with a soundtrack and service that feel instinctively in tune. Already drawing a discerning crowd, vivido stands out not by imitation, but by conviction - an address destined to become one of Ebisu’s most coveted tables.

[TARO_Mohri’s Gourmet Report]
Just one stop from Shinjuku, in the quietly local streets of Sasazuka, a new hybrid restaurant from Hokkaido-based Eastone Co. is exploring what “day-to-night” dining can look like in Tokyo. By day, the space becomes Hakkeisha, a refined chicken paitan specialist built around the idea of a “bowl as a reward.” The broth layers pure chicken flavor with pork richness, then aerates it into a light, cappuccino-like foam that feels indulgent yet surprisingly delicate. Three variations keep the menu focused: a signature miso paitan using Hokkaido-brewed miso with a lift of ginger, a richer spicy miso version accented with the house “karatama,” and an optional rizo-meshi finish where cheese and black pepper transform the remaining soup into something close to Japanese-style risotto. The pared-back space, designed with female guests in mind, reads more like a modern café than a typical ramen counter.

After dark, the same address shifts into Torinoiro, a chic, casual spot anchored by grilled chicken wings. The wings are brined overnight in “Raushipu,” made from the mineral-rich deep ocean water of Shiretoko and Rausu in eastern Hokkaido, then grilled instead of fried for a smoky, succulent texture. Instead of classic skewers, much of the yakitori arrives on the plate, easy to share from solo visits to group dinners, with a miniature bowl of Hakkeisha’s paitan offered as the perfect final course. For a company already loved in Hokkaido for high-quality, high-value menus, this first full hybrid in Tokyo feels like a thoughtful experiment in how people actually eat and live in the city today.

[TARO_in the news]
Opening this May in the heart of Hamamatsu in Shizuoka prefecture, the HAMAMATSU MARRIOTT HOTEL welcomes travelers to experience a new expression of Japanese sophistication. Just five minutes from Hamamatsu Station, this 236-room haven marks the second milestone in Hotel Management International’s partnership with Marriott, following the celebrated debut of Kobe Marriott in 2025.

Reborn from the storied Grand Hotel Hamamatsu, the property draws its concept - “The Aesthetics of Weaving” - from the city’s rich textile heritage and vibrant music culture. Interiors echo the tranquil blues of Lake Hamana and the golden tones of Enshu’s shores, creating spaces that feel both serene and richly contemporary.

Guests can indulge at Rochester, the all-day dining restaurant; Inanba and Choto-kan, where refined Japanese flavors meet artistry; or the sophisticated lounge & patisserie Greatroom. The hotel also features an exclusive M Club, elegant banquet rooms, and a state-of-the-art fitness studio - crafted to embody Marriott’s “Wonderful Hospitality” and Shizuoka’s artisanal spirit.

[TARO_in the news]
A new Japanese delicacy is about to take center stage. On May 1, 2026, Amano Yuuki Shoten in Miyazaki will debut AMANO ITADAKI, a bottarga crafted from mullet roe landed off Hyuga‑Nada and perfected over more than a decade of refined technique and meticulous tasting.

Behind the name is a story as layered as the flavor. Drawing on the mythology of Miyazaki - known as the land where the gods descended - producer Yuuki Kohama set out to create a “gift from the heavens”: a pinnacle expression of Japan’s famed karasumi that she can confidently call the highest possible standard. From the careful selection of plump, translucent roe to the use of blended Hyuga‑Nada sea salts and aged cedar boards to gently extract moisture and fix its elegant form, every step is designed to honor the ingredient and amplify its natural depth.

Positioned for chefs and hosts who cater to the most discerning palates, AMANO ITADAKI will initially roll out for professional use across Japan, with production set to scale over the next three years as the brand builds a new bottarga culture from Miyazaki to the wider world.

[TARO_in the news]
Beppu’s most softly spoken hideaway has quietly reintroduced itself. On March 6, 2026, “Beppu Onsen – Take to Tsubaki no Oyado – HANABEPPU” reopened after a thoughtful renewal, not to dazzle with grand architecture, but to gently redefine what a modern ryokan can be for the next generation of global travelers.

Originally a quiet company retreat away from Beppu’s busiest vistas, HANABEPPU has spent the past decade patiently crafting its own kind of allure: warm, feminine design cues, local Beppu bamboo craftsmanship, and feather‑light hospitality that feels more like a favorite guest house than a traditional inn. The 2026 refresh builds on that DNA, evolving from “preserving ryokan tradition” to “updating,” inviting guests to experience Japan not as a performance, but as something deeply, quietly lived.

At the heart of this new chapter is time - specifically, your time. An all‑inclusive lounge inspired by bamboo baskets, a new amenity bar, flexible dining that embraces both in‑house moments and evenings out in Beppu, and rethought in‑room rituals all work together so you can move entirely at your own rhythm, while a more sustainable approach to service keeps the experience intimate for guests and kinder to the team who welcome them.

For inbound travelers looking beyond the obvious resort names, HANABEPPU offers a quieter side of Beppu: a softly lit, bamboo‑laced hideaway made for unhurried stays.

[TARO_in the news]
Tokyo’s First Hotel Tokyo unveils a new chapter for its beloved buffet restaurant, l’Étoile, reopening after a decade-long hiatus with a striking new identity. Tucked away on the basement level, the space now evokes an intimate, cave-like hideaway illuminated by the “stars” of its cuisine - an atmospheric retreat designed for indulgent, unhurried dining.

The refreshed concept extends to the menu, where global flavors meet refined presentation. A heightened live kitchen experience takes center stage, introducing freshly prepared nigiri sushi and, for dinner, delicately crafted vegetable sushi. At the entrance, a theatrical dessert counter serves crêpes Suzette with seasonal strawberries, while signature dishes include salt-crusted beef inspired by the cave motif and a limited foie gras poêlé with pain perdu and berries - one exquisite plate per guest.

Designed to engage all five senses, l’Étoile invites diners to savor not only taste, but the sound, aroma, and artistry of each dish as it comes to life. With its elevated offerings and quietly luxurious ambiance, this renewed destination promises a sophisticated escape in the heart of Tokyo.
