【Step Back in Time to Edo-Era Tokyo This Autumn with “Hokusai Kouta Ballads” ✨】
Visiting Tokyo in late November 2026?
Go beyond the usual sightseeing and enjoy a stage performance celebrating Japanese culture!
“Hokusai Kouta Ballads - Livelihood in Edo (Hokusai Kouta: Edo no Kurashi)” combines projections of Katsushika Hokusai’s ukiyo-e artworks with live kouta, short, lyrical Japanese songs rooted in the Edo period—and commentary by a rakugo storyteller. It’s a special cultural experience that brings the world of Edo to life through sights and sounds.
English subtitles are provided for the kouta lyrics, making the show a great choice for international visitors, too.
The venue is the Small Hall of the Edo-Tokyo Museum in Ryogoku. The train journey from Tokyo Station to Ryogoku takes approximately 15 minutes, followed by a walk to the museum. 🚃
Make your Tokyo trip even more memorable with a journey back to the world of Edo! 🎎
