About the Bedouins of RUM, Jordan
Rum Village is the home of the Bedouins, who are the traditional guardians of the land inside Wadi Rum Protected Area.
Many of the desert camps you see today are owned and operated by local Bedouin families, built on land that has been in their families for generations.
These camps operate under official government licences and must follow strict environmental regulations to protect this incredible desert landscape.
Sustainability and RegulationsTo preserve the natural beauty of Wadi Rum:• Camps are limited to a maximum of 20 tents available for guests• Camp owners must follow sustainable practices• Most electricity is generated using solar energy
Water and PowerWater is stored in tanks and carefully managed. In larger or higher-category camps, generators may sometimes be used mainly to pump water into private bathrooms and to provide stable electricity when necessary.
This balance allows visitors to experience the magic of the desert while respecting the traditions of the Bedouin community and protecting the fragile environment of Wadi Rum.
✨ Visiting Wadi Rum isn’t just a trip into the desert — it’s a chance to experience the culture, hospitality, and heritage of the Bedouin people who call this place home.
