Save this for your Europe trip so you’re not left in the dark.

First, don’t just check the plug shape — check the voltage on your device. If it says 110–240V then it is dual voltage and you’re usually good with just an adapter.

That works for USB devices like most phones and iPads.

If it’s not dual voltage, you’ll need a converter, not just an adapter. That will change the voltage to match your US spec device. But if you’re bringing something with a heating element, like a hair dryer or straightener, double-check the wattage. Your adapters’ wattage needs to be more than your hair tool.

And before you call it a night, make sure the outlet is actually turned on — a lot of European outlets have a switch.

We booked 2 airbnbs in Barcelona.

Ok, I’m going to be really vulnerable with you today. My husband is going to save this reel and torment me with it forever.

When we first got to Europe one of our first trips was to Barcelona, one of our favorite cities. We landed late with sleepy kids and we get in the taxi and I realize my husband has taken the lead when I didn’t realize he knew where we were staying. Along the way I get a message from our host and come to the realization that the reason my husband knows all about this apartment is because I had asked him to book one, forgotten about it, and then booked a separate apartment because I didn’t have any booking info in my email.

I’ll never live that trip down, but since then I am better about putting all of my booking information in one place. With mindtrip I can use the guides that experienced travelers like myself create to develop an itinerary, book hotels and flights directly through the app and then keep booking information for tours, trains, etc that I add along the way. That way, I always know what I’ve already booked and what we have going on the next day.
