Anyone can eat carbonara in Rome. Few people eat the real one. 🍝
The difference is never about the neighborhood — it’s about who takes you there. With the right guide, you end up where Romans actually eat: the four traditional pastas made properly, real carbonara (egg, guanciale, pecorino, black pepper — nothing else), tender saltimbocca alla romana, and — for the brave — slow-cooked coda alla vaccinara, the “cucina povera” dish most visitors never even hear about.

There’s a version of Rome that only exists after the heat breaks. 🌆

By 3pm in summer, the city empties out. But once the sun starts dropping, the light turns gold and Rome quietly opens back up.
This is the Rome we love showing people.

Walk down to Lungotevere for open-air bars and food stalls — often ending in Piazza Trilussa, where crowds sing and dance to “Sarà perché ti amo.” Or head up to a rooftop for an aperitivo and watch the sunset behind the domes, before the crowds at Trevi, the Spanish Steps and Piazza Navona thin out.

First time in Rome? These are the scams every local warns tourists about. 🚨

Fake taxis charging triple. Waiters chasing you into menus in six languages. €4 bottled water beside the Colosseum. “Gladiators” who ambush a photo and then demand cash. Strangers selling Colosseum tickets outside the gates.
