Rome wasn’t built in a day… but we’re definitely trying to play mahjong in as many places as possible 😅🀄

Today’s stop on the MAHJEN156 Challenge: Rome, Italy.

Ancient ruins, archaeological wonders, cobblestone streets, espresso breaks, traffic chaos, mimosas, spaghetti & meatballs… and somehow mahjong tiles still made the journey with me.

There’s something surreal about playing a centuries-old game in one of the world’s oldest cities. ✨

From monuments to museums to medieval corners hidden between busy Roman streets… this city truly earns the name “The Eternal City.”
And yes… the search for the next mahjong cruise destination continues 👀🚢

Day 1 of 156 🌍🀄️

The MAHJEN156 Challenge officially begins…
Playing mahjong in 156 places around the world.

📍 Sevilla, Spain — during the iconic Flamenco Festival 💃

Casetas. Carriages. Carnival energy everywhere.
And flamenco dresses covered in dots… which felt like a little wink from the mahjong tiles themselves.

It’s funny how your passions start to overlap when you travel.
Tiles. Dots. Culture. Movement. Rhythm.

This is exactly what mahjong travel is about ❤️

And yes… this is just the beginning.

# 4/156 MAHJEN156 Challenge in the quaint Lillie town of Toulon on the French Riviera. Met a friend Anna Marie and explored the town and its myriad of fountains, squares and grand ole Opera house. Fresh outdoor market with the riot of colours, courgettes, artichokes, olives and local fare.

# 3/156 MAHJEN156 Challenge hiking the Cinque Terre along the amazing Italian coastline. Five cliffside villages, poppies, lemon orchards and olive groves and freshly squeezed lemonade, vineyards and vistas.
Then a relaxing game of Mahjong by the ocean.
