In 1505, some fishermen found, off the mouth of the Tiber, a floating crate with a wooden statue of the Virgin and carried it up the river (hence the name Madonna Fiumarola) to the Church of S. Crisogono in Trastevere. This evening sees the return of the traditional procession along the river, the most evocative moment of the celebrations in honour of Holy Mary.

Nel 1505 alcuni pescatori trovarono, al largo della foce del Tevere, una cassa galleggiante con la statua lignea della Vergine e la portarono risalendo il fiume (da qui anche il nome di Madonna Fiumarola) fino alla Chiesa di S. Crisogono a Trastevere. Questa sera torna la tradizionale processione sul fiume, il momento più suggestivo dei festeggiamenti in onore di Maria.

🐔💦𝙈𝙤𝙤𝙧𝙝𝙚𝙣𝙨—sometimes called, 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙨𝙝 𝙝𝙚𝙣𝙨, Scientific name Gallinula chloropus,
She is one of the friendly and colorful inhabitants of the Tiber River. We find her strolling in the center of Rome among the monumental bridges.

Black plumage, Red beak with yellow tip, And with long yellow-green legs, it is a medium-sized bird that feeds on seeds and small insects.
Skilled swimmers, they move jerkily and are distinguished by their intense guttural croaking call.

During the reproductive period, the females stage fights for the possession of the males.
It seems to see them walking on water, however they are able to move among the floating leaves.

OSTIUM
Ostia played a leading role in the history of Rome not only from a logistical and military point of view but also from a commercial, historical, social, artistic and architectural point of view. Inside it coexists

the mosaic from the Domus dei Capitelli in Stucco

The recent restoration of the Domus dei Capitelli in stucco has allowed the geometric mosaic with black and white tesserae of the Imperial age that decorated one of the internal rooms of the domus to be brought to light and consolidated in order to return to public use. This floor belongs to a phase following the layout of the domus, which instead dates back to the late Republican age (it is one of the oldest and at the same time the longest-lived domus in Ostia.).
Within a square field delimited by a frame, a large circle is placed, characterized by a braided frame and by a series of 8 concentric rows of curvilinear black triangles which decrease in size as they approach the centre. In the center there is a flower with 5 long and lanceolate petals, enclosed within a circular frame. The decorative motif recalls one of the mosaics of the Domus of Apuleius, in Ostia, but in this case the rendering is more simplified and less accurate.
The mosaic is visible within the visit itinerary of the Domus dei Capitelli di Stucco.

The Mallard is one of the many species that inhabits the banks of our Tiber, always in the company of its loving companion, they are usually seen having lunch in pairs.

The Mallard can be observed in groups with other species of dabbling ducks, especially with the Teal. The mallard searches for nourishment in a curious and typical position: it immerses the front parts of the body, until it is in a vertical position, with only the tail sticking out of the water.

The Mallard adapts to a great variety of habitats, from freshwater and brackish water wetlands (inland or coastal, natural or artificial, large or small) to cultivated areas (rice paddies) and even heavily man-made environments. The Mallard also builds its nest on the banks of irrigation ditches and canals, even the narrowest ones, provided they are accompanied by diversified riparian vegetation and characterized by a not too strong current. The Mallard mainly feeds on vegetables that it sifts on the seabed with its head immersed.
