Ancient Paestum & Buffalo Mozzarella Experience
One of the most unforgettable days during our Amazing Amalfi Retreat takes us deep into the heart of Campania — where ancient history, extraordinary food, and authentic Italian culture all come together in one incredible experience.
Our morning begins in Paestum.
And most people have never even heard of it.
Yet Paestum is actually older than both Pompeii and much of Ancient Rome.
Founded by the ancient Greeks nearly 2,600 years ago, Paestum is home to some of the best-preserved Greek temples in the entire world. Standing among these massive Doric temples, surrounded by open countryside and wildflowers, feels almost surreal. Unlike many crowded archaeological sites, Paestum still feels peaceful, atmospheric, and deeply connected to the land around it.

Our guests explore the site with a private archaeologist who brings the ancient city to life — explaining the Greek influence on Southern Italy, the evolution into Roman civilization, and why Paestum remains one of the most important archaeological treasures in Europe.
Then the experience shifts from ancient history to one of Campania’s most iconic culinary traditions:
Buffalo mozzarella.
And yes… the famous water buffalo are absolutely part of the story.
Campania is the birthplace of authentic Mozzarella di Bufala, and these beautiful animals have been part of the agricultural identity of the region for centuries. Their rich milk creates the soft, creamy mozzarella that simply cannot be replicated anywhere else in the world.
When you see the water buffalo up close, you immediately understand how connected this food is to the land, the people, and the traditions of Southern Italy.
Our guests visit a beautiful local farm where we:
• meet the water buffalo
• learn about traditional mozzarella production
• watch a live mozzarella-making demonstration
• and enjoy an incredible farm-to-table lunch featuring fresh mozzarella, local wines, seasonal vegetables, handmade specialties, and regional products from Campania
