Guidi Srl

Bruno Guidi inizia a produrre access

🔩 Threads and seals
When in doubt about threading, stop first
BSPP, BSPT, NPT, NPS.

Each standard has different geometries, applications, and sealing methods.
Before assembling or replacing a component, check:
– type of thread
– straight or tapered thread
– reference standard
– intended sealing system

👉 If you have doubts, contact us before installation.
A technical check can prevent leaks, failures, and incorrect couplings.

The most common mistake: underestimating the material

In a marine environment, material is a critical variable.
It is not only about working today, but about resisting over time:
– corrosion
– salinity
– wear

👉 The correct material prevents future problems.

🔩 Threads and seals
The wrong thread can generate leaks

Choosing an unsuitable thread can cause:
– fluid leaks
– failures under pressure
– unsafe couplings
– damage to components

👉 The problem may not be immediate but, under pressure, a difference in standard can become critical.

Bronze or brass? The answer is in time

In the short term, the difference may seem minimal.
In the long term, it is not.

Bronze maintains:
– structure
– performance
– reliability
Brass can degrade without visible signs.

👉 It is not about preference. It is about function.

🔩 Threads and seals
BSP and NPT are not interchangeable

BSP and NPT are different standards. The difference is not only the name.
NPT threads are sharp.
BSP threads are rounded.

The angle also changes:
– NPT: 60°
– BSP: 55°

👉 A fitting may even “go in,” but that does not mean it is properly sealed.

🧱 Materials
Safety: the consequence of material choice

A component weakened by corrosion is not just a technical problem: it is a risk.
In marine applications, material reliability is directly linked to system safety.

👉 The choice of material is also a choice of responsibility.

📏 Units of measurement
When in doubt, it is better to check first

Measurements, DN, PN, standards, and specifications can create confusion.
Especially when replacing a component or coupling elements from different origins.

Before assembly, it is always better to check:
– nominal diameter
– nominal pressure
– reference standard
– actual compatibility

👉 A technical check beforehand prevents mistakes that are difficult to correct later.
For any doubts, contact us.

🔩 Threads and seals
NPS: straight thread

NPS threading is a straight thread, meaning cylindrical. It is linked to the American standard, but it does not work like a tapered thread.

Sealing occurs through the use of an O-ring.

👉 Even when two threads look similar, the sealing system can be different.

🧱 Materials
Long-term resistance vs initial cost

Brass is often chosen for its lower cost. But over time, it can involve:
– frequent replacements
– loss of performance
– risk of failure

Bronze has a higher initial cost, but it ensures continuity.
👉 The real cost is measured over the life cycle.
