PUNTA MANARA
Punta Manara is one of our favourite hiking trails accessible by public transport; we have been on the trail many times, most recently, when our elder little one (Katkin 1) was two. This hike is quite hilly, when walked by someone fit takes 1 hour, with a child, give yourself 1 more hour.

We brought along our trusty child carrier, so Katkin 1 could rest and take a nap when she was tired. The paths can be rocky, and the climb at moments, steep, but the panoramic view of the Ligurian coast more than makes up for the effort required.

From Genova, it is easy to catch a train to Sestri Levante. Head on to the historic centre of Sestri Levante for the starting point at Vico del Bottone, which is located in the middle of Via 25 Aprile.

Don't forget:
• Put on good walking shoes
• Put on sunblock, especially on a sunny day
• Hats and sunglasses
• Plenty of water and snacks (or get some delicious focaccia in Sestri Levante itself)
• Child carrier if your child is still young
• A camera

After the walk, it's nice to explore Sestri Levante historic centre, which is very lively and full of good restaurants, bars, bakeries, and most importantly (to the kids at least) gelato stores.

Got any questions about the walk? Please feel free to leave a comment.

🎄Merry Christmas🌲
After this year, we cherish even more all opportunities to enjoy the outdoors and play (yes, adults can and should play too. )

We are huddling with family now but can't wait to venture out real soon!

Soil! Wonderful, fascinating things that sustain life.

When children have direct experience with natural phenomena, they are learning about and enjoying the world around them. A puddle alone offers many such opportunities. It might be a bit messy (though rain boots and pants might help), they get a whole lot out of it.

Slowness allows us to notice the little details.

On December 1, the Fred Rogers Center hosted a webinar on The Importance of Slowing Down featuring a panel of educators from Educators’ Neighborhood. During the 90-minute conversation, educators shared a wealth of ideas about why slowing down is important for children and for the educator-helpers ...

The wonderful thing about Liguria is that the climate is so mild and lovely, it is possible to go for a hike or walk on a beautiful winter's day.

As Christmas approaches, there is a trail between Portofino Vetta and Pietra Stretta in Mount Portofino Natural Regional Park (www.portofinocoast.it) which is great fun for the kids. Along the trail, people lay their creatively designed mini nativity scenes on the sides of the hills. Kids and adults alike enjoy spotting them and admiring how each nativity scene was created.

The nature park is only 45 minutes by car from Genova city. There are benches and tables around, so bring some picnic food. It is an easy trail of around 1 hour (threenagers taken into consideration), and while on good weather days may see more people, there is still a lot of space and fresh air for everyone to enjoy.
