As an English person, resident in Francavilla Fontana for 18 years, I am sharing my own photographs celebrating the beauty of Francavilla Fontana, Puglia, plus events in the area. I have included in this page a large selection of my own photographs of Francavilla Fontana with accompanying information in English for the interest of anyone visiting the town. I am an English person who finding it dif

ficult to find information about events in the area decided to share with other English speakers the information I do find. The sources of this information are posters, leaflets and the internet. I might not always be aware of cancellations of these events. I attempt to translate the information to English for your interest. I apologize for any mistakes in translation. The first time I drove through many towns in this region I was disappointed by the sight of modern flats on the outskirts and if I had stayed in the car I may have never discovered the beautiful historic centres. Francavilla is a living working town with houses, flats, a hospital, businesses and shops. This is an important agricultural, industrial and business area with a population of around 37,000. To see the real heart of Francavilla's Historic centre it is best to park in the streets north of the castle and take a walk. Francavilla Fontana is also called the "Imperiali Town" after the name of feudal lords that ruled the town from the end of 16th to 18th century. In 2009 it was awarded the “city of art” award by the Region. Over the past couple of years a great deal of work has been done in the historic centre to renovate the castle, clean the Mother Church and lift all the old limestone paving throughout the town to repair and relay it flat. Francavilla Highlights : The Historic Centre - Baroque facades- Imperiali Castle - Beautiful churches - Elegant Pallazzos - Performances in the amphitheatre of the town park- Town Festa in September - Saturday morning market - A real locals town - lower prices than more touristy towns - Countryside of vineyards, olive groves, almond trees, fruit and vegetables, horses, sheep and cattle.
