What if the secret to a better trip to Italy… is doing less?

When we finally get that dream trip to Italy, there’s this pressure to make it “worth it.”

Florence. Rome. Venice. Tuscany. Cinque Terre.

Two nights here. Three nights there. Another train. Another reservation. Another suitcase to pack.

And suddenly, the vacation you’ve dreamed about for years starts to feel a lot like the life you were trying to take a break from.

I believe there’s another way to travel Italy.

Stay a little longer.

Go back to the same café.

Leave an afternoon empty.

Sit in the piazza without wondering what’s next.

Let the person behind the bar start recognizing you.

Because maybe the goal isn’t to come home saying:

“I saw everything.”

Maybe it’s to come home saying:

“I felt like I was really there.”

That’s what my newest article is about — why seeing less may actually be the way to experience more of Italy.

🇮🇹 See less. Feel more.

Two years ago, Kelsey came on one of my trips to shoot content. She left calling us family.

She told me something after that trip I haven’t forgotten: “I got to experience Italy instead of managing it.”

That’s the whole thing, isn’t it?

Most of us spend our vacations managing logistics.

Where to eat.
How not to get lost.
Whether we’re overspending.

We call it a trip, but it’s really just work in a prettier location.

For one week, Kelsey didn’t do any of that. No transportation to figure out. No googling restaurants. No plan to manage.

Just presence.

That’s the illusion travel breaks.

Not just “there’s a beautiful place out there” — but that your current life, the one where you’re always managing something, isn’t the only way to live, even for a week.

If Italy’s been sitting on your list, I’d love to have you at the table too.

No alarm. No agenda. Nowhere to be.

I want to take you inside one real day I had in Radicondoli, a tiny hilltop village in southern Tuscany.

We woke up at 9am with no alarm. Walked to the village bar for a cappuccino with the same faces who already knew our order. What I thought would be a short walk turned into a full hour-long hike around the hill. Stefano made pasta for lunch. I napped, read, journaled, and felt zero guilt about any of it.

Then aperitivo turned into a three-hour dinner with the owners of our favorite restaurant, grappa, limoncello, and conversation that had nowhere to rush to.

This is what slow travel in Tuscany actually feels like. Not a checklist. Not five cities in ten days. Just one village, one week, and enough time to actually be there.

I recorded a new podcast episode walking through this whole day, hour by hour. You can watch/listen here: https://youtu.be/VM4u1MOUHMc

If a day like this sounds like exactly what you're craving, I've also created a free Slow Tuscany Starter Kit to help you start planning your own version of this. Link in the comments.

Want a week in Tuscany that actually feels like a vacation?

I plan one main thing per day, slow mornings, unhurried evenings, and a village that’s lovely even on a do-nothing day.

Think coffee at the bar, a short market trip, a w**ery visit, long lunches, and time to nap, journal, and really talk.

My 7-day slow-week rhythm (one base, gentle day trips, and breathing room) helps you trade frantic checklists for memories that stick. I’ve used this on small-group trips and in my own life here in Tuscany — and it changes everything.

Busy doing nothing but experiencing life. ✨🌟💫

Taken from our 10 year anniversary to Salento, Puglia. But how about a slow week in Tuscany?

Do you need a week away from work and responsibilities?

If “one week in one Tuscan village” is part of that dream, I’m designing a tiny Tuscan Village Week for 8 guests in June 2027: one village, slow days, long dinners, and no rushing.

You don’t have to decide now. You just have to keep the door open.

A presto, Caterina
