The biggest mistake travelers make?
Booking the hotel before choosing the right neighborhood.

Where you stay shapes your entire trip, think your morning coffee spot, how much walking you do, whether evenings feel magical or exhausting.

A beautiful hotel 30 minutes from everything can quietly waste hours of your vacation.

In Europe especially, I almost always prioritize:
✔️ walkability
✔️ cafés nearby
✔️ charming evening atmosphere
✔️ easy access to major sights

Some favorite areas:
📍 Rome → Monti or Trastevere
📍 Paris → Saint-Germain or Le Marais
📍 Barcelona → Eixample or Gothic Quarter
📍 London → Covent Garden, Kensington or Notting Hill
📍 Athens → Plaka or Koukaki

Biggest mistake tourists make in Rome?
🚫 Eating next to the monuments.

I have several clients heading to Rome this year, and here’s the #1 thing I tell them: Rome isn’t expensive, you’re just sitting in the wrong places. That €38 carbonara pasta near Trevi? Locals are paying €12–€15 for something way better.

Do this instead: → Walk a few streets away → Ask your concierge where they eat → Look for a short, simple menu
→ head to neighborhoods like Testaccio, Pigneto, San Lorenzo, or the quieter pockets of Trastevere

Green flags: ✔️ No food photos of the menu displayed  ✔️ No one outside pulling you in ✔️ House wine on the table + locals inside

And if you want something even more local? Grab lunch at Mercato di Testaccio or a quick supplì or trapizzino on the go. *These pictures are from when we lived in Spain we were so lucky to go to Rome with locals, they executed and planned every detail and we got to see into their beautiful world.

I didn’t go to DUCO Italy (one day I hope) but I’ve been following along with other travel experts who were there in Milan!

Italy is having a moment, but not in the way it used to.
It’s not the usual Rome, Florence, Venice, Amalfi anymore. People are going BACK to Italy and doing it differently for the 2nd, 3rd or 4th times!

Think:
• Dolomites
• Sardinia
• Puglia
• Tuscany, but slower
• Sicily

I’m also seeing a big shift in how people are traveling, more families, more groups, more multi-gen trips. And finallyyy hotels are catching up with better room setups, villas, connecting options.

The biggest take away..
People don’t want checklist travel anymore. They want to feel where they are. It’s less about rushing to see everything, and more about actually being present where you are and experiencing it!!

Like…visiting a farm, cooking with what’s grown there, meeting locals, finding those small towns you’d never just “stumble into.”

And big YES to all of that 🙌🏼
If you’ve already “done” Italy and are thinking about going back, this is your sign to do it differently this time!
