Crushing the legendary Sella Ronda or Dolomites Bike Day is only half the victory. The real strategy begins when you unclip from the pedals.

After tackling these iconic alpine climbs don’t settle for just any hydration. When you are surrounded by some of the most dynamic micro-terroirs in Europe, that is a missed opportunity.

True luxury is about pairing the intensity of the landscape with the precision of what is in your glass.

During the ride, hydration is paramount, but do it with intention. Look for Ega Scotoni, a rare premium mineral water bottled at 2,160 meters right near Rifugio Scotoni in Alta Badia. When you stop for that midday pasta or wood-fired pizza, skip the heavy drinks and ask for a sour Forst Radler to cut the heat.

The real magic happens post-race. Swap the standard Aperol for a spritz made with Doladira. Co-created by a Master Sommelier, its notes of rhubarb, gentian, and rosemary perfectly capture the alpine air.

And for dinner? When you are staring down a well-earned table of smoky Speck, pungent Graukäse, and a golden veal Schnitzel, you need a white wine that acts as a universal pairing champion.
The Cantina Terlano ‘Vorberg’ Pinot Bianco Riserva is your answer. Aged on the lees, its creamy mid-palate handles the rich mountain cheeses, while its laser-sharp green apple acidity cuts right through the savory crunch of the Schnitzel.

I have spent four decades scouting the sharpest lines and finest cellars across the Alps. You bring the legs; I’ll bring the wine list.

This weekend is about fallen friends, family, and heroes. Not sales. 🇺🇸

Captain Kimberly Hampton. Easley, South Carolina. Took her seat at Fiddler’s Green on January 2, 2004, when her OH-58 Kiowa Warrior helicopter was shot down over Fallujah, Iraq. She was 27 years old. Our adversary did not care that she was the first female pilot to be killed by hostile fire in American history. Nor did Kim. She was a fellow Cavalry officer. She flew every mission for her soldiers and for our Nation. She was selfless, brave, and talented.

Major Brian Mescall. Hopkinton, Massachusetts via the Granite State. Entered Fiddler’s Green on January 9, 2009, from Zabul Province, Afghanistan, when an IED detonated near his vehicle. He was 33 years old. A husband. A father. A friend. A consummate leader. Also the most positive person in any room.

Both kept their oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. They welcomed this obligation freely, without any mental reservation. And they well and faithfully discharged the duties of their office completely, accepting the greatest possible cost.

I wish they were still here today - our country could benefit from their kindness, dignity, and leadership.

We will never forget Kim and Brian. You will be forever out front.

For those who wish to honor the fallen in a meaningful way, the United States of America’s battlefield monuments in Europe stand as permanent testament to what was sacrificed on foreign soil. Normandy. The Ardennes. Flanders. If you’d like to visit with the gravity these places deserve, Eat Drink Fun can help you plan it properly.

Cycling the dramatic passes of the Dolomites is only half of the journey. More alpine magic sits directly below the peaks, carved into the steep, terraced valleys of Südtirol / Alto-Adige, Italy’s northernmost and still largely undiscovered wine region.

Here, extreme daily temperature swings, glacial deposits, and ancient seabeds yield wines of staggering precision, vibrant mineral tension, and unmatched aromatic depth.

Whether you are seeking the 100-point releases of Cantina Tramin’s Epokale, the strict single-vineyard Vigna crus of Elena Walch and Tenuta J. Hofstätter, or the gravity-fed architectural marvels of Weingut Pfitscher, this region demands a structured blueprint. True luxury means tasting locally - this is like no pinot grigio you’ve ever had.rejects the generic house pour at the hotel lounge. It commands private cellar door access to the micro-terroirs shaping modern European viticulture.

Beer before wine? At Frühlingsfest, absolutely. 🍻

Munich’s spring festival pours Spaten and Augustiner straight from wooden barrels at two tents.

Stuttgart (the older brother in this case) counters with Dinkelacker, Wulle, Sandwald, and Stuttgarter Hofbräu at FOUR tents.
