تاسست الشركة بموجب الامر المرقم 108 للعام 1988 المعدل من الامر المرقم 22 في 1977 , مع ملاحظة انه تاريخ التاسيس الفعلي للشركة كان في 01/29/1946 , بحيث انها كانت تدار من قبل الشركة العامة للسكك الحديدية.
المهام :
القيام بكافة مهام النقل الجوي (للمسافرين , البضائع و البريد) خارج وداخل العراق و تعتبر مؤسسة حكومية تدار من قبل الحكومة العراقية وتشرف وزارة النقل على الامور القانوية وامور الربح الخسارة في الشركة وكذلك القيام بمهام مراجعة وتدقيق الحسابات الضرورية لكي تتوافق مع البرنامج الحكومي مع توفير المعدات اللازمة لتسهيل عملها كمؤسسة اقتصادية مبنية على قاعدة الربح والخسارة.
