The new airport terminal was inaugurated in the year 2009 and licensed by the DGCA as aerodrome for public use in 2011 as per the ICAO guidelines. Air India, the Government of India owned flagship carrier had started its operation since May, 2007 and remained the pioneer and the lone service provider to STV till lately. The airport besides the scanty connectivity is used by Scheduled Airlines, Non
Scheduled Operators, VVIP Aircraft, Government owned Aircraft and Private Aircraft owned by large Corporates & Industries.
