According to the Quran, when Ishmael (known as Isma'el in Arabic) was 13, his father, Abraham (Ibrahim), began having inconceivable dreams in which God instructed him to sacrifice Ishmael (Quran Surah 37). Unbelievable as the dreams were, Abraham decided to follow Allah's instructions -- but not before asking Ishmael if he would agree to this. The son did not hesitate, showing ultimate submission to God's will by telling his father to go through with the sacrifice. Then, at the very moment that Abraham raised the knife, Allah tells him to stop -- they had passed the test -- and to replace Ishmael with a sacrificial ram. In the Quran, Abraham is rewarded for his faith with a second son, Isaac.

ABOUT SPEED BREAKERS-A CITATION
Pune: Civic activists have asked the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to immediately repair speed breakers in the city as per the standards of the Indian Road Congress (IRC), failing which they would move court.

President of the Sajag Nagrik Manch (SNM), Vivek Velankar, and activist Vishwas Sahasrabuddhe said that everywhere in the city speed breakers of various sizes and shapes have been installed.

The high court in March 2005 had ruled that the speed breakers should be installed as per the standards set by the IRC and the ones that do not comply with those standards should be removed.

The activists, in a letter to additional municipal commissioner Naresh Zurmure, said the PMC had removed all speed breakers after the judgment. But recently the civic body installed speed breakers at various locations in violation of the standards set by the IRC.

They said that as the new speed breakers built by the civic body do not comply with the IRC standards, it amounts to contempt of court.

The letter said that all speed breakers in the city should be repaired immediately to meet IRC norms.

Velankar said the cost incurred on repairs should be recovered from the salary of the engineers who sanctioned and built such speed-breakers.

OVERLOADING OF VEHICLES - THE DANGERS

Impedes the driver’s ability to control and manoeuvre the vehicle as the driver’s operating space is reduced. This is why many drivers, especially with passengers, are seen driving with their hands hanging outside of the vehicles.
With overloading, seat belts are often not used as the aim is to pack in as many persons as possible into the vehicle as you would sardines in a tin.
With overloading, if the collision is to the front end, the pressure on the occupants is from the front and the back. This is because: The front is crushed in sending pressure to the centre. Pressure from the back is created when the passengers in the back are thrown forward.
Occupants end up crushing each other.
Traction of tyres is reduced due to the weight in the car. This results in a ‘washing’ movement which makes the car unstable at high speeds.
Brakes have to work harder due to ‘the riding of brakes’ and because the car is heavier due to overloading. Brakes overheat and lose their effectiveness to stop the car.
The whole suspension system comes under stress and, over time, the weakest point can give way.
The engine also comes under stress when the vehicle is overloaded, therefore: More power is needed to overtake. It takes longer to overtake and if one’s judgment is poor, a collision can result if there is an oncoming vehicle.
