If the economy is doing so well as claimed by the Government, why would the backbone of the industry - road transport sector be in it's worst period ever? Reasons given below.

Transporters, join the movement & stand up for your business.

First increasing toll & insurance (multifold increase), then demonetization, then GST (unnecessary compliance/increased GST rate on trucks/parts & GST on sale of vehicle without ITC), then increasing diesel prices (highest in Maharashtra), then eWay bill (complicated system), then RTO corruption/failure (fitness facility missing), then increase in Income Tax (u/s 44AE) & now no entry in Mumbai City...!

Does the Government want transporters to shut their businesses ? Inspite of knocking all doors we have got no response from authorities. Is ease of doing business only a gimmick to make people invest money & then make conditions so difficult for businesses?

Yesterday several members gathered from areas around Masjid Bunder at BGTA office to find a way to make our problems heard. A press conference is being called shortly to highlight to media & masses the untold story of transporters. Ask the authorities to respond on where should lacs of daily wage labourers go? Where should thousands of employees from godowns go?

No entry of heavy vehicles which anyway did not ply during peak hours will not stop the ordeal of Mumbaikars. Traffic Police is only doing trial & error at the cost of several lacs of people. Is this a way to increase more corruption? Delhi started a penalty of Rs 1500 per truck towards reducing pollution, has there been any reduction in pollution? Increase in corruption would be tremendous.

Road widening is done wherever there is space available, resulting in multiple bottlenecks. It's bottlenecks that cause traffic not trucks which enter city after 10 pm anyway.

Transporters across Mumbai, Maharashtra & India will not take such uncalled for decisions by authorities & Government without even discussing with stakeholders.

Extend support not to BGTA but to your business's survival and ensure you like, share & tag this as much as you can so people are made aware of the circumstances under which our trade is being made to work while being called the backbone of the industry.

AIMTC and AITWA both national associations of transport industry have called two day token strike on 9th and 10th October 2017. This is expected to be fully successful as all state level associations have supported this. GST is the main issue. We are forcing govt to withdraw dual GST provision and maintain only 5% RCM. Few more such issues. We are trying to aware you about this so that you plan accordingly and do not get stuck in delivery of any critical orders. Please stop dispatching from 7th onwards. Anything in transit may get stuck midway. If any changes take place we will update you.

Indian Logistics Sector will grow by 15-20 per cent by 2015

As the world’s focus shifts Eastwards, experts believe that India’s logistics sector would grow at a rate of 15 to 20 per cent, creating huge job opportunities in the sector.

Speaking during a national conference titled ‘Vision in Global and Indian Logistics (Vigil) 2014’, organised by St Britto’s College of Art and Logistics, former Union secretary of shipping M P Pinto said the logistics sector in India, which is now worth USD 100 billion, will be worth USD 385 billion by 2015 and the focus should be on creating warehousing facilities, a cold chain and centre of excellence for road transport to sustain the growth.

He highlighted that India loses `44,000 crore worth vegetables, fruits and food grains due to lack of cold chain. “India has the capacity of only 30 million tonnes of cold storage and it requires another 62 million tonnes,” the former bureaucrat said.

He also suggested a regulatory mechanism for road fleet management, besides mooting the idea for a centre of excellence for road transport.

He said, with the online retail and cash on delivery mechanism catching up in India there is a huge potential for logistics and huge opportunities for youth.

Former chairman of Shipping Corporation of India Sabyasachi Hajara said the logistics sector in India, which employs around 45 million, is set for rapid growth.

As India’s nominal GDP could grow from USD 1.8 trillion currently to USD 3.6 trillion by 2020, the overall export-import cargo at Indian ports is projected to increase to around 2,800 million metric tonnes (MMT) by 2020 from approximately 890 MMT now. He said the current economic loss due to poor logistics infrastructure is USD 45 billion, which is 4.3% of the GDP and is expected to increase to USD 140 bn -- over 5% of the GDP by 2020. The loss can be reduced significantly by making an integrated and coordinated approach and reducing India’s transport fuel requirement by 15 to 20 per cent, he said.

He also said the contribution of ports situated in TN and West Bengal is set to increase significantly. He said India is the second largest populated nation with 54% of population below the age of 24. “They need to be groomed to pick seafaring as a career option,” he added.

Executive director of Ford India Tom Chackalackal, adjunct professor of Northern University of Malaysia Prof Dato Michael Tio, managing director of Shelka Marketing Services Salem Lakshmanan Ganapathi and MD of APL India Anil Radhakrishnan spoke.

APEX TRANSPORTER'S BODY DEMANDS TRANSPARENT TOLL POLICY.

Terming the toll policy of the government "non-transparent", apex transporters' body AIMTC today demanded that road contracts on build, operate and transfer structure be brought under the purview of CAG.

Pitching for replacing the present system with a transparent one, the industry body in a statement asked that appropriate steps be initiated for bringing the road contracts on BOT basis under "CAG scanner and the lapses, leakages and unmindful concessions to the private players be curbed in the interest of people of the country.

"AIMTC has been raising voice against the unjust, non-transparent and unreasonable toll policy of the government, which is designed highly in favour of private builders and is a scam much bigger than 2G Spectrum," All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) said.
