Engineering the Interface Where Sea Meets Land — A Legacy of Firsts

COMACOE, together with its 100% subsidiary COMACOE Trenchless Pvt. Ltd., is proud to have delivered India’s first offshore sea-to-land HDD pipeline pull as the Engineering, Design, and Ex*****on Partner for the Mumbai–Rasayani Pipeline Project.
The successful 2.3 km HDD pull (the first of three), executed through a highly dynamic intertidal offshore zone, was far from a conventional trenchless operation. It was a marine engineering–led challenge, shaped by large tidal ranges, tight geometric tolerances, and complex subsurface geological conditions—ranging from fractured strata to hard basalt rock approaching 100 MPa—at a critical offshore–onshore interface.
To overcome these constraints, COMACOE specially designed, constructed and installed bespoke offshore construction platforms, engineered to safely withstand lateral loads exceeding 200 tonnes. These platforms enabled continuity of operations across fluctuating tides while preserving strict alignment, linearity, and positional control throughout the ex*****on.
Ex*****on was further strengthened by the orchestrated deployment of multiple specialised marine spreads, purpose-configured for each critical activity at the interface. This included platform piling and construction spreads, construction spud barges for stable offshore positioning, pipelay welding and new-generation heavy equipment, including a recently acquired 660 tonne capacity HDD rig. Together, these asset-backed resources ensured stability, precision, and uninterrupted progress in a tide dominated environment—where tolerance, control, and redundancy matter as much as raw capacity.
This milestone builds on a deeper and proven legacy. In 2012, COMACOE delivered India’s first land-to-sea microtunnelling, establishing early national capability in executing trenchless works across marine interfaces. More than a decade later, the direction has reversed—but the engineering philosophy remains unchanged.
What follows is an even more ambitious national first — India’s first Sea to Sea crossing. This forthcoming challenge will extend the trenchless frontier beyond the shoreline, demanding absolute control across open marine conditions, complex subsurface geology, and long-distance alignment continuity. It represents not merely a progression, but a decisive leap in India’s offshore engineering capability—where ex*****on spans sea to sea, risk is engineered end to end, and new benchmarks are set for indigenous marine and trenchless engineering.
