ECTA can significantly reduce export duty, but only when the benefit is claimed correctly.​

Under the agreement, Australia has eliminated or reduced tariffs across 96% of Indian export lines, presenting a substantial opportunity for exporters. However, without a valid ECTA Certificate of Origin, shipments default to standard MFN duty, resulting in the loss of this benefit entirely.​

To qualify, goods must satisfy the Rules of Origin, including tests such as CTSH or the required value content threshold, making origin verification as critical as the paperwork itself.​

Even a single error- an incorrect HS code, a weak cost statement, a delayed Certificate of Origin, or a broken direct-consignment rule- can place the entire benefit at risk.​

Exporting under ECTA requires more than compliance on paper. It requires shipments to be audited, eligibility verified, documentation built correctly and claims confirmed with the Australian buyer, ensuring paperwork translates into real, measurable savings.​
