Fantastic Forts - Episode 3 | Lohagad | Murud Janjira | Vijaydurg

In episodes 1 and 2 of this series on “Fantastic Forts of India’, you have seen some extraordinary forts of Rajasthan. Now we change direction and drive to Maharashtra, which has some phenomenal forts that not many people know about.
Have you heard of the sea forts, or Jaldurgs of Maharasthra? Or the hill fort whose one end resembles a "Scorpion's Tail" and due to which it is known as the “Scorpion Fort”!
Then there is Murud Janjira - the unconquerable fortress of the Konkan, which the British, the Portuguese, and even the Marathas failed to conquer, and interestingly, right till the Independence of India, the flag of its rulers the Siddis, continued to fly high over Murud Janjira’s remarkable ramparts.
The third fort featured in this episode is Vijaydurg, which the British called the "Eastern Gibraltar", because conquering this “Fort of Victory”, was an impossible dream. Vijaydurg isn’t just a ruin; it is a timeless monument of India's coastal legacy where history, sea, and nature all collide. Stone by stone, tide by tide... this is the unconquerable pride of the Konkan. It is also where we shall end this season’s journey of, “Exploring the Fantastic Forts of India”.
