Welcome to Moalboal, a small Philippine beach town that delivers some of the most unexpected and spectacular experiences in all of Southeast Asia. Kilometres of powdery white sand beaches lapped by waters so calm they look like the surface of a swimming pool, and gentle sea turtles glide through crystal-clear coral reefs close enough to touch.

A short drive away, the turquoise canyons of Kawasan Falls summon all adrenaline junkies to trek, jump, and slide through limestone cliffs guided by local experts.

The Philippines runs on hospitality - rice on the table, ripe mango on the side, and a smile that costs nothing. This summer, while the world feels uncertain, the Philippines is still here, and it’s waiting.

No, this is not AI. This is Núi Thủng, or Angel Eye Mountain - a very real mountain in northern Vietnam, with a hole straight through its heart. Rising from the karst highlands of Cao Bang, Núi Thủng stuns you at first sight, framing the open sky like a perfectly circular window into another world.

What you’re looking at is 300 million years in the making. A prehistoric cave, slowly lifted by tectonic forces until it broke the surface and opened its eye to the world. No technology here. Just geology doing something inexplicably beautiful.

This is Vietnam beyond the guidebook. Unhurried, unforgettable, and wide open. This summer, while the world feels uncertain, the East is still here and it’s waiting.

Imagine a place where the pace of life is so slow and peaceful that the most demanding decision of the day is which beach to watch the sunset from. Now imagine you don’t even need a passport to go there. This is the Andaman Islands.

Havelock, now called Swaraj Dweep, boasts not one, not two, but five stunning beaches. It’s home to Radhanagar beach, once named by TIME magazine as one of the most beautiful beaches in Asia with its white sand, and crystal clear water that shifts colours so much it looks almost holographic.

Neil Island, now called Shaheed Dweep, offers its own unique kind of peace, with cycling paths winding through banana plantations and paddy fields, where all roads lead to some the most pristine beaches in the country.

The Andamans have a way of making the rest of the world feel very, very far away. Which, of course, is exactly the point.

Most countries make you wait until you’ve stepped outside the airport before they show you what they’re made of. Singapore starts immediately. The Rain Vortex at Jewel Changi Airport cascades through a 12-metre oculus in an enormous glass-and-steel dome, plunging seven storeys into a valley of over 60,000 trees and shrubs, all thriving inside one of the busiest airports on earth. The Rain Vortex is designed to funnel the rain water from Singapore’s frequent tropical thunderstorms at up to 10,000 gallons per minute, naturally cooling the air beneath the dome and recirculating the water back through the building. This is not an amenity. It is a statement. This is the Singapore philosophy in a single building: that modernity and nature are not in opposition, that infrastructure can be beautiful, and that even the place where you land should make you feel something outside of the mundane. In 1922, a British archaeologist made what would become the most significant archaeological discovery of the 20th century. The tomb of a boy-king who had been erased from history 3300 years ago, but would now become the most famous pharaoh who ever lived - Tutankhamun.

Within his tomb, archaeologists found more than five thousand objects including gold-covered chariots, inlaid furniture, and a solid gold death mask which gave the world its most enduring image of ancient Egypt.

As you step into the tomb, barely the size of the average living room, the walls glow ochre and gold, and painted gods look down at you from every surface. And at the centre of it all, in a climate-controlled glass case, lies the mummy of the boy himself, the only pharaoh still in his original tomb. To stand in this humble room, is to stand in the most significant room in archaeological history.

Just 5 minutes from Kyoto station, lies a place so sacred, it has existed for over 1300 years as one of the most revered spiritual and cultural symbols in all of Japan. This is the Fushimi Inari Taisha.

The shrine is most famous for its winding tunnel of 10000 torii gates, but half way up the mountain, the crowds thin, and the forest takes over. Moss-covered stone lanterns line the path, ancient cedar trees close in above you, and small shrines appear at the edge of the trail, lined with offerings of sake, rice, and incense. Stone foxes emerge from the undergrowth - the kitsune, Inari’s divine ancient messengers.

This is a place of living worship, not frozen history. A place where the incense still burns, the offerings are still fresh, and the mountain still draws people up its winding path as it has done for thirteen centuries.

There is a particular kind of magic that only old stone and wild green can create together, and Sri Lanka’s Nine Arch Bridge is a perfect example of this. A century-old stone bridge, nine perfect arches rising from a misty gorge, emerald tea plantations tumbling down every hillside. A low horn echoes through the jungle, and you almost expect to see the Hogwarts Express emerging from the low-hanging clouds.

What makes this marvel of engineering even more extraordinary is the fact that not a single steel rod holds it together, only stone, cement, and the ingenuity of the Sri Lankan builders who finished it when the world was in the throes of WWI and the steel had been redirected towards Britain’s war effort.

Over a hundred years later, the bridge still stands entirely without steel support, carrying trains across the sky just as it always has. If you’re looking for a summer holiday that feels like stepping into another world, this is your platform nine and three-quarters.

In the mountains of North Bali hides a place where seven waterfalls fall at once, where mist hangs permanently in the air creating rainbows without warning, and the jungle closes in around you so completely that the rest of the world ceases to exist. This is Sekumpul: widely considered the most beautiful waterfall on an island already famous for its beauty.

The journey here is as surreal as the waterfall itself. Winding mountain roads, a trek through the rainforest, the sound of the falls growing louder with each step, it sets the tone and then rewards you in the end with this spectacular sight. Treat yourself with a cool dip in the natural pool at the base of the falls and feel worldly troubles washing away.
