Cradled in the serene embrace of the Himalayas, around 180 km from Shimla, lies the sacred Mata Bhimakali Temple in the picturesque town of Sarahan. This revered shrine is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas of the Indian subcontinent and is dedicated to Goddess Bhimakali, the presiding deity of the former Bushahr royal family.
The temple finds mention in the 11th chapter of the Durga Saptashati, where Devi Adishakti proclaims:
TRANSLATION:
“When I take on the fierce form of Bhima in the Himalayas to protect the sages from demons, I shall henceforth be known as Bhima Devi.”
