Happy 93rd Cochin Port Day !! ❣️🎉🎊

It was on this day, a whopping 93 years ago, that the first ever vessel entered inside the modern port after the channel was widened and deepened, marking the beginning of modern Kochi port ! 😍

From then to now the port has become one of the most important multidimensional ports in the country, with huge growth and prominence in shipbuilding and maintenance, cargo handling, bunkering etc 👏

Here's the timeline of the some of the most important incidents in the port's rich history :
- 1341 : Closure of the ancient port of Muziris and widening of Cochin Gut
- 1859 : Arrival of Captain Castor, first Port Officer
- 1870 : Aspinwall's memorandum suggesting developing a sheltered harbour in Cochin
- 1921 : Approval for experimental dredging
- May, 1926 : Commissioning of dredger "Lord Willingdon'
- 26 May, 1928 : First vessel crosses the channel and enters the harbour - SS Padma of Bombay Steam Navigation Co., commanded by Capt. Bullen
- 1 August, 1936 : Administration of Cochin Harbour taken over by the Government of India under the Major Port Trusts Act
- 24 February, 1964 : Cochin Port Trust constituted
- 1994-95 : Dedicated container handling facility 'Rajiv Gandhi Container Terminal' commissioned
- 2007-08 : Offshore Crude Oil handling facility (SBM) commissioned
- 2010-11 : Commencement of first phase of International Container Transshipment Terminal, Vallarpadam with 1 million TEU capacity
- 2012-13 : LNG Regasification Terminal commissioned
- 2020 : India's first full fledged cruise terminal constructed

The port's future is looking very bright now, with the ICTT looking good for expansion, plans for deepening the channel to allow motherships, the GAIL pipelines from the port becoming operational and Kochi becoming the node of the national industrial corridor considering the major port here. ❤️
