Kuari pass trek is one of the well known treks in Uttarakhand, located at height of 4268m.

IG ✅ | When you are telling stories, you are actually trying to illuminate some portion of the truth in an artful way. The stories may immediately seem to be a lie, but it's like an impressionistic painting.
In my last post (if you haven't seen then do watch it), I told you about how moon plays a devilish role in star gazing. Witnessing stars in India is a challenge because of widespread light pollution. You have to travel far, then comes the moon cycles. Even if you plan well ahead, the weather can play a spoilsport.
Right here we have full moon and to top it up cloud cover. But then, a full moon rising over snow clad peaks is an out of the world experience esp at such heights. Having watched it rise for a long time, we still had some time to kill for dinner. I brought a simple led lights powered by batteries to do some light painting esp on nights when stars are not there. Here I m rotating it standing behind my friends as the moon lights up everything in the background.

why is it called Kuari Pass?”

According to folklore, this place is where Goddess Parvati meditated before she got married to Shiva. Neelkanth, the place where Lord Shiva is believed to reside, is situated right in front of the Pass. Lord Shiva got impressed by her determination and austerity and took her away to marry her. Since Goddess Parvati was a bachelor at that time, hence, it is called Kuari (meaning bachelor in the English language).

Another explanation is that the mountain people considered (still do) mountains the abode of Gods and Goddesses which is why they left these regions untouched or virgin a.k.a Kuari until Lord Curzon discovered the trail.

Weather in Kuari Pass

Best time to visit kauri pass
Temperature in summer remains between 19̊C to 29̊C while in winter the temperature falls upto -8̊C and the maximum temperature can go up to 12̊C. Thus, these two seasons are fit for the trek to Kuari Pass.
mmer: Kuari Pass Trek is best during summer season starting from April till mid-June. The calm and pleasing summer sun makes the trek enjoyable. Carrying Light woolens is adviced.

Monsoon: In monsoon, the route becomes muddy and slippery for the trekkers. It is better to avoid trekking in this season.

Spring: Spring month’s mid-September to early November are considered best time to trek Kuari Pass. The trekking is fun with lush greenery all around and the calm weather.

Winter: The trek becomes difficult during the winter season. Heavy woolen clothes and shoes are must for trekking during winter.

The trek to Kuari Pass starts from Selu Bagar, which is a drive able distance from Ghat. The trail from Selu Bagar heads to Ghunni, which is a short trek of approximately 2–3 hours. From Ghunni the trail snakes through a rich undulating landscape that is bedded with several species of alpine trees and wild flowers. You will also come across a small village, Ramni, which is inhabited by a Himalayan tribe who are living a harmonious life full of colours and spirits. Thereafter, the trek to Kuari Pass becomes strenuous as the trail continues with a steep climb to Jhinjhi village en route to Vinayak Pass. Throughout the trail, from Ghunni to Jhinjhi that traverses through an open meadow with stunning views of some of the Himalayan jewels, one can frame the panorama of Nanda Ghunti and Chaukhamba.

One of the most popular treks in the Indian Himalayan region that is located in the Garhwal Himalaya, the Kuari Pass trek draw in thousands of explorers from all over the world every year. The route to Kuari Pass was once traversed by Lord Curzon in 1905 and hence the Kuari Pass trek is often dubbed as ‘Lord Curzon Trail’. The trek passes through the thick alpine forests of oak and conifer, Rhododendron and birch, teeming with a variety of animals and birds life and NOT TO YOUR SURPRISE, you may even come across leopard pugmarks or a Himalayan black bear on this trail. The trek to Kuari Pass is thus connected with each and every elements of adventure that embarks upon often and on steep ascends and descends, narrow and tricky paths and gushing streams.

उत्तराखंड के 75 जांबाजों ने किया था अपना सर्वस्व न्यौछावर, 37 को मिले थे वीरता पदक।

देश पर कुर्बान होने वाले जांबाजों में उत्तराखंड के वीरों का कोई सानी नहीं हैं। जब-जब देश की आन-बान पर कोई संकट आया तब तब उत्तराखंड के जाबांजों ने देश की रक्षा के लिए अपना सर्वस्व न्यौछावर किया।

यही वजह है कि जब भी जवानों की शहादत को याद किया जाता है तो उत्तराखंड के वीरों के अदम्य साहस के किस्से हर जुबां पर होते हैं। बात करें वर्ष 1999 के करगिल युद्ध की तो यहां भी उत्तराखंड के जाबांज सबसे आगे खड़े मिले।

करगिल युद्ध में उत्तराखंड के 75 जवानों ने देश की रक्षा करते हुए अपने प्राणों की आहूति दी थी। इनमें 37 जवान ऐसे थे जिन्हें युद्ध के बाद उनकी बहादुरी के लिए पुरस्कार भी मिला था।
