An honest question for anyone building in the EV-for-gig-work space: is battery swapping or fixed charging the better long-term model for India?
We're firmly on the swap side at Bhago Mobility, and here's the operational logic behind it.
A delivery rider can't afford to be offline for an hour while a battery charges. Their income depends on uptime. A swap takes minutes, not hours, which means a rider never has to choose between charging and earning.
It also means the rider never has to own or maintain a battery, historically the most expensive and fastest-depreciating part of any EV. That risk sits with the infrastructure provider, not the individual earning a daily wage.
Fixed charging works well for personal vehicles where downtime is a minor inconvenience. It works poorly for gig work where every offline minute is lost income.
This is a genuine design debate in the EV industry right now, and we don't think there's one right answer for every use case.
For commercial gig fleets specifically, where do you land on swap vs. fixed charging, and why?
