Enchey Monastery in Gangtok is steeped in legend 🐐. One story says it was blessed by a ta***ic master who predicted it’d bring prosperity to Sikkim. The name “Enchey” means “solitary house” - fitting for a monastery built in a secluded spot.

It’s also got a sacred spring inside the complex that’s said to have healing powers. Locals believe the water can cure illnesses, so you often see people collecting it in small bottles.

The architecture blends Tibetan and Sikkimese styles - check out the wood carvings and frescoes inside. Plus, it’s one of the few places where you can see traditional Nyingma sect rituals.

M G Marg in the evening is like a whole different world 🌆! The street lights up, shops bustle, and with the no-honking rule, you can actually hear the live music and laughter. It’s the perfect mix of chill and energy - locals strolling, street food smells, and the mountains looming in the background.

It’s like the heart of Gangtok, where everyone comes to hang out after a day of sightseeing. You get the best food, best people-watching, and zero traffic chaos despite it being a main spot. Plus, the prayer flags fluttering around add a nice touch.

Areas where honking is prohibited: As you've seen, this significantly reduces noise in hilly towns where the sound reverberates. Fines are imposed, especially around schools, hospitals, and MG Road. This makes walking much more pleasant.

That sounds peaceful. Enchey Monastery in Gangtok is one of those places where you really feel the calm - 200-year-old monastery perched on a hilltop, prayer wheels spinning, and the sound of lamas chanting.

When lamas are praying there, you’ll usually hear the deep rumble of the dungchen - those long horns - mixed with bells, drums, and mantra recitation. They often do prayers for protection of the town and for auspicious events. Visitors are welcome to sit quietly and observe, as long as you keep silence and walk clockwise around the prayer wheels.

Did you get to see the prayer ceremony up close? The morning puja there is especially serene, with the whole valley below and mist rolling in.
