| Arunachal Pradesh is preparing to strengthen its position as a winter sports hub, as the picturesque Panga Teng Tso in Tawang has been selected to host Winter Adventure Tawang 2026, a national-level ski mountaineering initiative. The programme is being organised by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs and managed by Adventure X Fusion Tribe to promote winter sports, adventure tourism and youth participation in high-altitude activities.
According to the schedule, a 10-day intensive training camp will run from April 5 to 14, during which participants will learn ski mountaineering techniques, safety protocols and endurance skills under experts from the SkiMo India Federation. The programme will conclude with the Open National Ski Mountaineering Championship on April 15, expected to draw athletes and enthusiasts from across the country.
Officials said the event will follow global standards under the guidance of the International Ski Mountaineering Federation, ensuring professional ex*****on and safety.
Deputy Commissioner Namgyal Angmo described the initiative as a significant step in unlocking the region's winter sports potential. She added that it will not only highlight Tawang's capabilities but also boost the local economy and inspire young people. With its pristine snow covered landscape, Tawang offers ideal conditions for such activities, marking a strong move towards building a sustainable winter sports culture in the region.
