There's much that one can learn about life from the way the water flows through the streams, the khuds, of Dharamsala and the beautiful valleys around it.

At the peak of the Indian summer, these khuds don't just provide the much needed respite, they provide you so much more: a place to introspect, a place to let go, a place to be one with nature...

Our teas are nourished by some of these beautiful Himalayan streams, originating in the snow capped Dhauladhars. Come enjoy the Himalayas this summer.

Dharmsala Tea Company's Jasmine oolong loose tea leaf is a floral blend delivering you the blossoms of jasmine with a smooth, creamy and earthy taste of oolong.

Our Himalayan Hand Rolled Oolong Tea is a semi-oxidized tea, which places it mid-way between our green and black teas. This gives it the body and complexity of our black tea, while retaining the brightness and freshness of our green tea, making it a favorite of tea connoisseurs. The leaves, grown lovingly in our tea estates nestled in the Himalayas situated over 4,000 to 6,000 feet in altitude, are withered and then hand rolled instead of leaf being rolled in roller machines. Ample, developed, smooth, creamy and perfectly balanced – tasting our oolong tea offers a truly opulent experience.

Potential Health Benefits: The oolong tea combines the goodness of green and black teas, improving alertness, boosting immunity, reducing absorption of fats, and promoting healthier skin. The jasmines, like roses, are wonderful for relaxation, stress relief and also for nourishing and beautifying your skin.

Our Himalayan Thunderstorm tea, our take on the Masala Chai, is not just delicious, it has incredible health benefits as well. Kangra Black tea itself is rich in antioxidants that energize and awaken the senses, improve focus, relieve stress, strengthen bone density, and stimulate metabolism. Adding the various spices and herbs means that the masala tea helps improve digestion as well as fight nausea and heartburn. It also serves as a detoxification agent while at the same time helping lower blood sugar levels and prevent muscle pain.

Masala - just your own special combination of spices - is what makes the masala chai such a favorite of South Asian tea drinkers (but increasingly others also!). There isn't a set formula, everyone plays around and eventually settles on theirs. As have we.

Not too heavy, not too light, our Himalayan Thunderstorm masala chai is just the right balance of spice, blended with our Kangra black tea. (We also have a Masala Green Tea by the way!) And we use fresh, whole spices, so that you get the maximum essence of each of the spices. You'll feel refreshed, energized and ready to face the world. Milk is optional to add for our masala tea - as is the sugar. Try it out and let us know what you think.

Our Kashmiri Kahwa is the perfect sensory awakening, with its combination of delightful aroma, exquisite flavour, rich history, warmth of good hospitality and beautiful hues of saffron-y orange colours in the cup.

The richness of Kashmiri Saffron, sourced from our neighbouring Kashmir Valley, complements the spicy aromas of cardamom, cloves and cinnamon, all sourced directly from Kerala, creating an authentic cup of warm, nutty, and spicy Kashmiri Kahwa. As the tea brews, the distinct and unforgettable fragrance of the kahwa, perfected by us over decades, will draw you in, and transport you to the lush valleys of Kashmir. The first sip will give you that perfect harmony of flavours - from the spices to the nuts that come together to elevate the green tea base. The sliced almonds are the perfect icing on the cake, giving you a rich, delectable and refreshing brew.

Our association with Kashmiri Kahwa goes back over a century. All through the late 1800s and 1900s, Dharmsala and neighboring tea estates in Kangra supplied most of the green tea to Afghanistan, Kashmir and Central Asia. The Kangra Green Tea exported to these places was used to make a traditional green tea preparation called Kahwah or simply Kahwa. Kahwa, which is traditionally prepared in a brass kettle known as samovar, is usually served as part of celebration dinners, or right after elaborate lunches or dinners.

Now, we bring that rich heritage to you. Our Himalayan Kashmiri Kahwa Green Tea is a rich, fragrant and complex combination of saffron strands, cardamom, cloves, almonds, and cinnamon blended with our green tea. One of our finest green tea blends, kahwa is an embodiment of solace, and is ideal for the times when you are craving a little bit of warmth or an immunity boost.

Our Story

In 1882, our great-great grandparents came to Dharmsala and immediately fell in love with the beautiful, lush green tea slopes and the majestic, snow-capped Himalayan peaks. That year, when they founded The Dharmsala Tea Company, the Kangra District Gazette described the tea as ‘superior to that produced in any other part of India’.

As sixth generation tea planters, we carefully preserve the tradition of sharing this single - origin Kangra Tea with the rest of the world. Our tea remains evocative of our core values of simplicity, naturalness, purity, love, and sustainability. Culture, philosophy, art, health, friends and nature intersect in Dharmsala, a place that inspires and moulds our values, a place with which our family has been associated for over 135 years.

Our focus on retaining our family heritage and roots in Dharmsala is equally matched by a concerted effort to revive elements – art, philosophy, culture, wildlife and nature - that make Kangra such a distinct region. Kangra Art, for example, flourished here centuries ago but has been bereft of the patronage it once enjoyed. We want to change that. In an effort to revive Kangra art, therefore, our packaging for the teas is inspired by Kangra miniature art.
