The Suez Canal is seeing a gradual return of container traffic, with container-ship net tonnage up 54.2% year-on-year in the first eight months of 2026.

The Panama Canal is reducing daily transit capacity in response to below expected rainfall and reduced water inflows in the Canal watershed.

Daily transits will be reduced to 34 from 3 September and further to 32 from 15 September, with the changes expected to place additional pressure on vessel scheduling and waiting times for ships without secured reservations.
