Helping a Researcher Trace a Historic Gate in Mehrauli.
One of the things I enjoy about working with Project Mehrauli is that there is always something new to discover.
Recently, I was contacted by Jake Benson, a PhD scholar and Soudavar Research Fellow for Persian Collections (Part-Time) at the John Rylands Research Institute and Library, University of Manchester. He was trying to locate an old gate near Farrukhsiyar’s Gate, known for its historic Urdu and Arabic inscriptions.
Through our email conversations and my local knowledge of Mehrauli, I was able to help him identify and locate the gate he was looking for.
It was a simple but rewarding experience and another reminder that Mehrauli’s history is not limited to its famous monuments. It also survives in old gateways, inscriptions and lesser-known corners waiting to be explored.
