📌 It has been observed in multiple recent cases that when Citibank US (USA) is used as an intermediary bank, remittances are getting stuck for days/weeks, resulting in:

❌ BL release delays
❌ Expiry of free time
❌ Detention & demurrage
❌ Serious commercial losses to trade

🚨 Recent Case (Industry Reference):
A Mumbai-based freight forwarder remitted USD 20,000 from an EEFC account to a shipping line’s MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co in USD account with another bank. As Citi Bank (USA) was involved as intermediary, funds have been held for over a week with queries not aligned with standard RBI / FEMA practice.

⚖️ Reality Check:

Banks do NOT bear detention, demurrage, or commercial losses.

The trade suffers.

🔔 Strong Advisory to Trade:

✔️ Always verify intermediary bank details in advance.

⚠️ If intermediary bank is CITI BANK, reconsider the route or hold remittance till a safer channel is confirmed.

Effective immediately, the United States and India have agreed to a historic Trade Deal. Under this agreement:

📉 The reciprocal tariff the U.S. charges on Indian goods will be reduced from 25% to 18%.

🛃 India will likewise move forward to reduce tariffs and non‑tariff barriers against American products, in many cases to zero.

Prime Minister Modi also agreed to significantly increase his country’s purchase of American products — including energy, technology, agriculture & coal — boosting U.S. exports and strengthening our economic partnership.

This deal builds on months of negotiations since early 2025 and marks a new chapter in U.S.–India relations — one rooted in mutual respect, cooperation, and shared prosperity.
