Place 101: Kone Falls - Andhra (100 Kms From Chennai)
(Like this page for more Travel info)

Kailasakona waterfalls(Kona falls) are a natural perennial waterfall in the valley of Nagari Hills in Chittoor District. The water originates from a split in the mass rock. The water here is crystal clear having considerable mineral values. There is a small temple of Lord Shiva and Parvati near the waterfall. It is said that the water here, has some medicinal powers and can heal ailments.
Kone Falls comes 10 kms before Puthur (Andhra Pradesh). Its a couple of 100 Kms from Chennai and takes about 2 hours if you drive at 60 kmph. The first one hour journey through the national highways was simply awesome! Roads are superb and there were no potholes at all. The foot of the waterfall can be reached even by car, which is something unusual at most of the places.

Nagalapuram is extremely famous for it’s natural pools which are made by a few waterfalls along the mountains. The real beauty of this trek is, you will be hiking through the upstream all along. You will encounter 3-4 clean and transparent pools on your trekking route. You need to swim through the pools to continue your trek.

Apart from these natural swimming pools, you will also come across natural water slide, like the ones you can see in a water theme park. You can enjoy the slide downwards without much hurdles. The waterfalls is itself is serene and is the main highlight of the whole Nagalapuram trekking experience.

Another important factor that makes Nagalapuram so unique and special is, the difficulty of trekking. This is not suited for first time trekkers and so only experienced guys and those who are in good shape can do this trek. Due to this difficulty, most of the people who are non-trekkers and first time trekkers doesn’t come here. Another reason is that this is not a well known hill station like Coorg, Ooty, etc. so its raw nature is still untouched. There is no commercialization yet in the hills. If you are looking for a raw and pure nature, then Nagala falls is your solutions. There are regular trekking trips done by Chennai Trekking Club on weekends.

Place 97: Banatheertham Falls, Tirunelveli - Tamil Nadu
(Like this page for more Travel info)

Banatheertham Falls are situated in the Western Ghats, above the Karaiyar Dam in the Tirunelveli district of the state of Tamil Nadu. The Banatheertham Falls are perennial, unlike Courtallam, which are seasonal falls. The Tamirabarani River meets the Karaiyar Dam at Banatheertham Falls. The waters of Tamirabarani River are believed to have traces of copper in it, thus giving the river its name. Legend has it that the Sage Agasthya, known to us as the Father of Indian Plant-Based Medicine, used to traverse across these hills in search of herbal medicine. An idol of the sage can also be found on the hill near the dam. The best season to visit these perennial falls is from December-January as the temperatures are highly pleasant during this time and one can escape the humidity. It is worth noting that visitors are charged entrance fee to the falls and the visiting time is from 6 am to 6 pm.
